Baseball

Here's a fun (??) idea. How about a prize pool where each participant has to put up one NM/VG+ record from thier collection or a $25 Gift Certificate to a label/store:

Assuming 10 teams:
  • 1st Place : 5 LPs and chooses her/his winnings 1st
  • 2nd Place: 3LPs and chooses second
  • 3rd Place: The remaining 2 LPs/certificates
Just at thought - might stimulate some interest to get us up to 10 -12 managers.

I'm open to whatever makes sense. It might be easiest to pool entry fees for gift cards, at Plaidroom and/or Paladin. If we can get to 10 teams, $25 each could look like this:
  • 1st place: $150 gift card
  • 2nd place: $75 gift card
  • 3rd place: $25 gift card (you essentially get your money back)

Yeah, I actually just saw on T-Mobile it says starting March 25. For some reason I thought it was towards the beginning of Spring Training but I guess it's usually around the start of the regular season.
I don’t know if it’s possible for me to watch less baseball than I did last year. I really need to think about adopting a new team. It’s tough though. I genuinely love the White Sox but I feel like a complete dumbass investing time, money, and effort into a team that clearly doesn’t give a fuck about winning. The Bears are inept but at least they try.

I would think about following the Mariners but given the we their current TV deal is structured and with blackouts of local markets with MLB.TV, they would actually be the most expensive team for me to follow.

I just like to be able to have game on in the background and not feel like I’m wasting my time.

Always room for more Phillies fans! Tom McCarthy/John Kruk broadcasts are the best in baseball.

Or you could just watch The Dodgers dominate the league all summer.

I feel like you are either a Philadelphia fan or you’re not. I respect their surly fan base but it’s not my cup of tea.

If I had to choose right now I would be much more inclined to support the Tigers or Orioles or Rays or Padres. Underdog franchises that appear to be giving it a go. Yankees, Cubs, Red Sox, Dodgers and Cardinals are the teams I could never root for unless they were playing each other and even then I would rather see a meteor strike than another Yankee/Dodgers World Series champion.

I live in the Orioles territory. That would be a good one as long as ownership shows commitment to the team. I actually just switched to Fubo TV so I get MASN for the first time in a while so I might actually get to check out some Orioles games on TV this year.

May I interest you in America's sweethearts: the Houston Astros?

The Reds will be a fun watch this year.

You should root for the White Sox of the National League ------ The New York Mets.

The most expensive contract that the White Sox have ever signed was freakin’ Andrew Benintendi to a five-year, $75 million deal. The Mets just signed Soto to a three quarters of a billion dollar contract.

The White Sox are a poverty franchise and even then they’ve won a World Series title this millennia.

I don’t hate The Mets but that’s not really what I am looking for.

Well you have to choose a NL team if you are going to maintain your Black Sox fan status.

If you are looking for a poverty franchise: maybe you are a Pirates Fan.
Poverty Franchise
  • Largest FA contract: Francisco Liriano, LHP (3/$39M, 2015)
  • Larges Extension: Bryan Reynolds, OF (8/$106.75M, 2023)
Plus you get to keep the Pinstripes look and the black colorway with the added bonus of some of the most ridiculous throw-backs unis/hats ever - which fits right in with the White Sox Shorts uniforms of the 1970s

And you get to root for Paul Skenes - so It'll be like you never traded away Dylan Cease.
