December 2022 Vinyl Spin Challenge: The Intergalactic Mixtape Dance-Off!

Day 9 – Cherry Bomb
Hello world I'm your wild girl. I'm your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb.
Play something that features fireworks, explosions or fire, either in song or album art. Or play an album by a girl band.

Veruca Salt - Eight Arms To Hold You
Song: “Volcano Girls”

“Volcano girls” sound like they’d be pretty fiery and explosive to me

Day 10 – Escape (The Pina Colada Song)
Escape the winter and play something tropical.

Various – The Harder They Come (Original Soundtrack Recording)
Mango – MLPS-9202, 1972/1979

Day 7 – I Want You Back
Oh darlin', I was blind to let you go (Let you go, baby). But now since I've seen you it is on (I want you back). Oh I do now (I want you back). Ooh ooh baby (I want you back). Yeah yeah yeah yeah. (I want you back).
Play something you haven’t played in a long time. And dance around like baby Groot.

I haven't played this since I entered it into my Discogs about eight years ago.
I think I'll clean the kitchen and dance...

Day 11 – O-o-h Child
Ooh child. Things are gonna be easier. Ooh child. Things'll be brighter.
Play something bright, hopeful and/or positive.

Todd Rundgren "Something/Anything?" (1972 Bearsville; 2022 RSD 4x45rpm Bellman reissue)
I wanted to get this to the table since getting it a little over a week ago, and today is the day. I feel this fits the bill for something bright and hopeful. Sounds incredible so far by the way. I'm debating what to select for the mix, and I think I'll stick with the classic "I Saw The Light" to follow the Bob Marley from yesterday.

Day 11 – O-o-h Child
Play something bright, hopeful and/or positive.

I may have a bit of a skewed idea of what is bright, hopeful and/or positive...but I usually feel better after listening to this. The cover art certainly has a new-agey, feel good thing going on.

The official short film/video for one of the tracks isn't exactly bright, hopeful and/or positive, but it is good.

Day 6: I'm not in love

The Soundcarriers - Entropicalia

This band is featured a bunch in Lodge 49, the show whose officially released soundtrack I played for an earlier day. When I first watched the show about two years ago I made a playlist with every available song used in the show (fortunately the music supervisor was very active on TuneFind) and I got very into this kind of dayglo psych sound. Still going down that rabbit hole but I've certainly listened to the Soundcarriers the most.

Moonstarr "Dupont" - now this takes me back!!! I don't think I've listened to this since the early 2000's...I remember really digging this record back then and kind of getting into like broken beat stuff but never fully jumping in which is probably for the best, I didn't need another type of music to chase back then... Don't need that now either but that usually doesn't stop me!

This is the subway station I go to almost every day! Have never heard of this but will have to check it out.

Day 11 – O-o-h Child
Ooh child. Things are gonna be easier. Ooh child. Things'll be brighter. - always positive, never negative

Ugly Duckling "Journey to Anywhere" - some positive upbeat rap music on a snowy Sunday! Was thinking of spinning the remix by People Under the Stairs but I'll stick with the original:

Day 7: I want you back

Fleetwood Mac - Fleetwood Mac

Spun Rumours last night for the first time in ages, and I think I like this one just as much. "I'm So Afraid" is my favourite FM song but I realized I've already chosen a bunch of closers for the playlist and need to switch it up, and I've always loved this one.

Day 8: Come and get your love

Bob Dylan - Desire

My adventure soundtrack would have to be "Isis" (though the RTR Bootleg series live version is especially powerful):

I broke into the tomb, but the casket was empty
There was no jewels, no nothin', I felt I'd been had
When I saw that my partner was just bein' friendly
When I took up his offer I must-a been mad

For sure... it was expected.

Each GOTG Soundtrack Volume is a whole 60 minute mix and the month has 2.5x worth of those.

It's why I suggested culling some tracks at the end. Makes it easier to share and also might help you smooth out the flow.
Looking at what I have so far, I might make 2. One playlist is more rockin and the other will be more downtempo/chillout
