I didn’t know which individual soul artist or album to play from my collection today, so I decided to put on this compilation (not too far removed from being a mixtape, if you think about it).

Day 12 – Ain’t No Mountain High Enough
'Cause baby, there ain't no mountain high enough. Ain't no valley low enough, ain't no river wide enough
to keep me from getting to you, baby.

Play some soul music.

The title track on this album would be great to go over the finale credits of movie. So I'll let it end this half of the mixtape.

It's a shame this Tom Petty track didn't make it to streaming, or I would have placed it between volume 1 and 2.

Frank Ocean's Nostalgia Ultra has a bunch of cassette play and rewinding sounds I've used on playlists before. Love to throw in short tracks in my playlists in general, actually. Random interludes like what you posted.

I wonder if any of those read-along vinyl/books from the 70s and 80s have been digitized with their original sounds? They often had instructions to flip the records like that.

I never thought to look for sound effects! I'm gonna go with this track to distinguish between the two.

I think this is what you were looking for though, right @Turbo ?

Whenever I play this album, it’s hard to not believe that it’s my favorite ever

I know R2-D2 beeps to tell you to turn the page not sure if someone tells you to flip it over, I can check the record and report back...if this is what you mean

That's the record! I had a bunch of these read-alongs. I may very well be mixing the flip the record prompt up in my memory.

My favorite read-alongs were the ones that came with comic books (like Planet Of The Apes).

I know you got SOUL!!!

Lee Fields "My World" - Love Lee Fields, so soulful and funky as hell! I got this record at a show of his that my wife, girlfriend at the time, took me to for my birthday! It was a complete surprise and such a wonderful show, I believe the El Michals Affair opened and may have also backed him up as well...since the mixtape is already out of control let's just play his cover of a Supremes song....side not R2-D2 tells you to turn the page but no one tells you to flip the record!

Day 11 – O-o-h Child
Ooh child. Things are gonna be easier. Ooh child. Things'll be brighter.
Play something bright, hopeful and/or positive.

Man. This record. It came out at a really tough time for me; these songs helped me deal with an awful loss in my life...and it was written by Rateliff through a particularly rough stretch of his own. Hell, he openly bawled at the Ann Arbor Folk fest at the end of his solo set. (I think we all shed a tear)

It's a beautiful album...dark, sure, but it has a certain hopefulness, albeit reserved. This one is worth spending some time with.

Man, these prompts have me spinning some of my favorite records tonight. My playlist will be pretty playable I think.
