was the mono box different from the broken out mono releases? hard to keep track....
LOL, you know, I'm not really sure. Makes sense, but who knows, since I had the mono box I payed little attention to the individual mono releases. I'm sure someone will chime in.

No it was the exact same release on the exact same day.

I remember coveting the box that day but not being as well paid in 2014 I made do with White and slowly collected the rest over about 4 years. It was 2018 when I got the last of them.

Given the rumours are that this mono is again AAA from the same tapes by the same engineer using the 2014 mastering notes he made I’d be astounded if it was radically different.

Agreed, not expecting anything earth shattering between the mono's, then again, comparing the remix isn't really apples to apples either...............gonna sit back and enjoy this weekend and see :)

Yeah I’d like to hear the remixes on wax at some point too, I was really impressed with the hi res digital. I’m just astounded at how much they’re asking for them so gunna try and hold out for a used like new or accideal/price drop next year.

i have mine on order from Dusty Groove. says it should be shipped soon. initial reviews on hoffman seem to be good but don't see anybody who has an OG to compare to.
They’re actually the local store I was referring to lol. I’ve got a separate order I’m picking up from them this weekend, and trying to decide if I should grab GSH.

How does their ordering work? I have an order there too for the GSH but seems like an “if we have it” kind of thing. Never ordered from them before.

Not sure how preorders work with them as it’s a relatively new thing they do. And since I’m local I usually just sign up for in stock notifications for upcoming releases and then pop over there when they get copies in (or order online and pick up).

If it shows as In Stock on their website though, they for sure have physical copies in store. The GSH is in stock so I assume your preorder will be fulfilled. They’re a fairly large online retailer, especially for their specialty genres (funk/soul & jazz, and to a lesser extent hip-hop & world), so they usually get a decent quantity for those titles, and usually restocks later on when they sell out.

Some mixed reviews coming in on Discogs regarding the new pressing of Revolver. Some complaints of IGD.

Anyone here own a copy yet and care to comment?

I got nothing, no IGD at all on my copy.

That said, it was a Revolver kind of day, lol. Did a lot of spinning of various pressings and here are my opinions for those interested. The pressings that were compared were the following:

Current mono vs Box Set mono

Stereo:
1980 UK Pressing
1986 MoFi
2022 Remix

Let's start with the easy one, the mono's are basically the same, nothing stood out and said, oh, that's a little different.

Stereo, a different story all together, lol. So this was the rotation, Current remix, MoFi, UK and back to the current remix. What I can say without hesitation is that these all sound great, you're not going to be disappointed with any of them. I do still contend that comparing the remix to the others isn't really apples to apples, certain things were made more evident while others were maybe subdued a bit or changed just enough to make, at least me, feel like, hmmmm, it's different. But again, I think the remix is rock solid, I think they did a nice job with it, it sounds great and quiet when it needs to be.......................on my rig anyway.

In the end this is how my list panned out...........
3. UK
2. Remix
1. MoFi

Now, there is one thing that has always made me love the MoFi pressing over most everything else I've listened to, but keep in mind there are those who down right hate the MoFi pressing, so take all of this with a grain of salt. In my opinion the MoFi is a more "natural" experience/sound, it also has more depth. The remix did a nice job of capturing the dynamics right to left, but it's a bit shallow compared to the MoFi, the MoFi pushes the "room/space" back a little more, in my opinion completely changing the sound and some of the subtle pans that exist on this album, you can really notice in ER with Paul's vocals. Was the mono how it was intended? No idea, I feel with all the experimenting they were doing during this time the stereo would have been closer to the intended "experience", but what do I know.

So ya, I'm more than happy with the box, didn't get to the outtakes yet. but I'm a sucker for those and enjoy them and the book is fantastic, so it's all good. Hope this helps :)

Awesome review, @AnthonyI. Thank you! The MoFi isn’t on my radar and I don’t have a UK pressing, so good to know the remix will be a worthwhile purchase down the road. 🍻

And what's the prevailing thought on Exile? Best press?

Any original 70s US pressing with the Artisan symbol on all four sides in the dead wax is peak Exile. The Monarch is supposed to be the best: The Rolling Stones - Exile On Main St.

And they repressed that one a couple times in 1977 with the same metalwork in a gatefold instead of a unipak.

Although, I also have this 72 specialty pressing, which does not have the artisan symbol on side 1 I think, and it sounds just as good, slightly different. Maybe less boomy kick drum, but just fantastic crankable rock and roll that blows away any post-70s pressings I've heard: Rolling Stones - Exile On Main St.
