Definitive Audiophile pressings

What’s the latest with the Acoustic Sounds series? Wasn’t Bill Evans supposed to be next? I don’t see them listed for preorder anywhere.

Then Ray Charles / Gil Evans? I’ve got those last two on preorder but there’s no release date listed. I’m also wondering when we will hear the update on which Impulse titles are confirmed for 2021.

Did I miss any news other than the rumored list of Impulse in the press release a few weeks back?

No news anywhere. Evans was never up for preorder but it was on the promo materials. I have Ray on preorder but don’t see any new dates now either. I think just about every big reissue series is way behind schedule. BN is too

Stoughton got shut down due to COVID outbreak as well for a bit

I think there should be some special badge or site title for those in the Boom Boom Century Club. I'll be 15 away once the mail comes on Monday (Aretha's Young Gifted and Black)

Are they available individually? I only ever saw them as the box set issue.
 
So, I just received 2 of the Black Rhino reissues (Young Gifted and Black and Roots). I have to say I am not impressed by YG&B, it doesn't sound that great, and Aretha's voice saturates and several of the tracks. Typical GZ pressing? I think other people here praised the sound of the record, so maybe I received a dud? Roots sounds very good though.

Damn--Maybe a GZ dud. I grabbed Young Gifted and Black and America Today and I think they both sound awesome, especially for $20 or whatever I ended up paying for them!

I had a ton of weird constant noise on my side A of the Aretha before I cleaned it, but otherwise I am happy with it after the clean.

Edit: I think I've read some of the vocals were recorded too hot. That might be some of what you're hearing. Would be interested to hear a comparison to an original.

Bit behind here, but me too! I figured they weren’t gonna get these. My card details had updated and got an email saying they needed alternate payment - you’ve never seen someone shoot a reply faster! Haha. Very excited for this one.

yeah, that's exactly how it sounds actually, cut too hot. I didn't clean it I have to say.

Sweet that they reached out to get an updated card! I honestly forgot I ordered it from them since I just assumed it would never arrive. Excited to get it too!
 
So...Velvet Underground....
I have the 2012 box set that I want to replace at some point. The pressings are nothing special, and very digital sounding. These are some of my all time favorite albums, and I never spin them which is sad. They aren't exactly a band that screams clean or audiophile, although Lou does sound great on that Speakers Corner Transformer. I have an older copy of Loaded that I like, so I'm thinking just any 80s or earlier pressings would be great for their 1st 3 albums, and Nicos Chelsea Girl...

Any recommendations out there?
