I have both VU and Another VU from the 80s and they sound nice. Supposedly the mid-80s Verve reissues of the albums are all quite good, though I have heard them to vouch for it.
I think sadly the source material for VU just wasn’t super well recorded. @jamieanderson1968 ’s response is the answer I think I got awhile back when I was looking for some VU, so I’d probably go down that route myself. I ended up not buying any though so if you find any good sounding pressings please let me know!So...Velvet Underground....
I have the 2012 box set that I want to replace at some point. The pressings are nothing special, and very digital sounding. These are some of my all time favorite albums, and I never spin them which is sad. They aren't exactly a band that screams clean or audiophile, although Lou does sound great on that Speakers Corner Transformer. I have an older copy of Loaded that I like, so I'm thinking just any 80s or earlier pressings would be great for their 1st 3 albums, and Nicos Chelsea Girl...
Any recommendations out there?
I'm really happy with The Complete Matrix Tapes if you're into a heavy dose of live VU. Great stuff and it sounds very good. (Hopefully you can find it for less than the discogs listing .)So...Velvet Underground....

I just impulse purchased this the other night after going a few whiskeys overboard. I have never bought anything from Impex. How is the packaging compared to other expensive audiophile labels like MoFi/MMJ/AP?

Impex îs great. Tip-on jackets, glossy, heavyweight. The Sinatra Sing & Dance record has a nice booklet too, it's top notch.I’ve got a few Impex, packaging is pretty good, probably not quite MMJ quality, but certainly very good.
I have it -- but I'm a week away from listening to it (if you can wait that long) -- I've had good luck with all the ones from that series, but I'm not a passionate fan (I really like EJ, went to 3 shows, but don't collect) and I don't have a lot of baselines on what might be better. That said, I got them for cheap and remember them all as being a good listen -- but didn't have a sit me down in my seat experience IIRC.Anyone have this pressing? It would go a long way in getting me off the MoFi version...........and expense, lol. I have a decent 80's pressing, but it's such a great album it's on the "Possible Upgrade" list

I own several -- and that box. I have had great luck with everything but their release of Miles Davis' E.S.P. (pressing great, package nice, tape issues) for which the MoFi is just a far better purchase. My only complaint is that the box requires you to take the whole box out (no side access, true box) and so I don't play them as much as I might otherwise. plus side: I'm out of shelf space and so the box is super convenient right now!I just impulse purchased this the other night after going a few whiskeys overboard. Seems to have pretty decent reviews. The MFSL is, IMO, insanely expensive at this point. Same with the Speakers Corner reissue of it. They will both set you back $300. I ended up just going digital on that one. I can hook you up with a rip of the MFSL CD if you want..Anyone have this pressing? I'm in no rush, as I'm playing through stuff I'm taking note of what I might want to look for a better pressing of.I have it -- but I'm a week away from listening to it (if you can wait that long) -- I've had good luck with all the ones from that series, but I'm not a passionate fan (I really like EJ, went to 3 shows, but don't collect) and I don't have a lot of baselines on what might be better. As I've typed this, I'm realizing how relatively useless this review is....
I'll need to debate this one a bit, the pressing I have isn't terrible, but it's showing it's play time I think, I bought it used from a shop years ago. I'll wait on @HuddieLedbetter's "review" and go from there.........thanks for the offer on the ripSeems to have pretty decent reviews. The MFSL is, IMO, insanely expensive at this point. When it comes to Elton reissues, I keep my eye out for the MoFi and the Speakers Corner of Goodbye and then the DCC of his greatest hits, and all are so insanely expensive now. And when there's not an overwhelming consensus on the MoFi being the best sounding pressing of that album I ended up giving up hope of owning the MoFi. The CD rip was my consolation prize haha. And it does sound pretty awesome.I'm in no rush, as I'm playing through stuff I'm taking note of what I might want to look for a better pressing of.

..........do we need to have an intervention@AnthonyI also according to Hoffman...there's a secret KG cut of it from the 80s. The 1980 MCA version that has the cloud logo on it. Certain copies of that were cut by a young KG and supposedly sound great but that's more of something to keep an eye on if you see any in person. Only side A has KG's initials apparently but people seem to think he cut all 4 sides. Sadly it's not listed on discogs and the non-KG cuts sound pretty bad from what I've seen.

No, just tase him a couple of times. That usually does the trick..........do we need to have an intervention
