Definitive Audiophile pressings

Dear Everyone who is cool with sleeve issues,

Teach me your ways. I wish to be like you.

Signed,

aka: me.
My entire collection started by going to flea markets and buying records for $2 with beat up sleeves when i was in college. I have slowly started caring more about sleeve condition but at the end of the day, if I'm getting something for a significant discount and records are in VG+ or better shape, then I'm usually cool with it. I still buy lots of used stuff. It's a bit different for new records and I find that the discount might not always be worth it. But even something like $10 off a $50 album because of a tiny seam split is definitely something I'd consider. That's why a lot of the Acoustic Sounds discogs deals have been really tempting to me...

Hey @MikeH ...do you think those mofi cheap thrills/hall and oates/or iron butterfly will be back or are those gone ?
Iron Butterfly is gone (at least through MoFi...some shops might get some in?) They posted "last chance" on their instagram page for that one and Miles Smiles. I think Hall and Oates and Cheap Thrills are both awaiting repress and aren't limited to a number. Typically, if the album isn't limited to a certain number and was released in the past few years, those titles will likely be back in print at some point.

Do you buy it for the eventual value you could get if you happen to re-sell it? Or you just want to enjoy the music of a NM copy?
I don't think you mentioned the title btw (or it is intentional, just don't want to be scooped on that offer?)
I ended up passing on it, but it was the Beatles MoFi box set. The box was pretty wrecked but the records never played and were priced at $35/album when I had my eye on it. Put a few bids in but then it sold for higher than I wanted to spend on a damaged box set. I have gone back and forth a lot on whether I want the box or just collect a few of the pressings separately.

I just impulse purchased this the other night after going a few whiskeys overboard. I have never bought anything from Impex. How is the packaging compared to other expensive audiophile labels like MoFi/MMJ/AP?

I’ve got a few Impex, packaging is pretty good, probably not quite MMJ quality, but certainly very good.

Impex îs great. Tip-on jackets, glossy, heavyweight. The Sinatra Sing & Dance record has a nice booklet too, it's top notch.

I concur - I think Impex does a great job all around. I have 3 others and they never have disappointed me.

Acoustic Sounds happens to have Legrand and Monk's Dream both on their discogs now. Not sure how they compare price-wise or if they are still available to buy at retail, but Legrand is priced at $40 and Monk is $45.

My local has the entire Beatles MOFI box set complete with the original case. Looks to be NM all around. Barely played. $1500. Ugh.
I was bidding on one with a really messed up box today and it sold for $550. Records were NM supposedly and never played...I've seen a bunch on ebay go for just under $1,000 lately. $1500 seems REAL steep.
