Definitive Audiophile pressings

The mono box set was repressed recently at RTI (instead of United or whatever shitty plant it was originally pressed at) and put in new box art so you know it's the right version. I got that one off amazon last summer for about $80 and there weren't any pressing flaws like non-fill and surface distortion, etc. that plagued the first pressing of the box. However I had a few discs that were a bit warped. Otherwise, it's not a bad set for Sundazed quality of digitally-sourced pressings. Kevin Gray/RTI.

Thanks! I think there were also some halfspeed masters somewhat recently? I have seen White Light/White Heat I think for a decent price from that series but not sure how good they sound.

For some reason, VU &N has a lot of fake/counterfeit/bootleg pressings. I know when I first starting collecting vinyl I got a bootleg 2004 Mono (that still....sounds pretty decent). I think the Abby Road HSM of that from 2019 is a counterfeit as well

Can anybody recommend the best Velvet Underground pressings that are somewhat affordable? I was eyeing the mono box set but heard mixed things about it. I'm most interested in self-titled and VU + Nico for now.
I recently ordered the Matrix Tapes set, and the research I did prior to that purchase has me hopeful it will be a worthwhile set to have. Only question now is when it might arrive (from uDiscover).

The 80’s reissue of the +nico sounds pretty good to me and was pretty easy to come by for $20-25 but looks like the prices are up for some reason.

Toad Hall showed the ones he got last week and they were numbered over 20000.
Yea--it always shocks me when I see it for sale for $150+ on ebay. I have been following MoFi prices on ebay for the past year or so now out of curiosity and it's insane the prices people pay on some of these that aren't even OOP. It's also very easy to see which ones have just been restocked because people throw them up on ebay really quickly when a repress is announced in hopes of flipping at a high price.

Just picked up my 1st Mobile Fidelity recording.
Must say, the sound is frikin awesome!!
Is this the standard of their pressings? It knocks the Accoustic Solution pressings out of the park!
I have my eye on the Kind of blue 45 one but are there any others I should keep an eye out for?

The hope is that they are all that good!

The Bill Withers live at Carnegie is immaculate. Also Johnny Cash - Walk the Line.

The majority of them are fantastic. Typically, stick to the ones that say "Original Master Recording" on the top banner as those are from original master tapes. Ones that say "Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs" are not from OG tapes (often from copy tapes though and also often AAA and usually still sound amazing like the TRex you just bought). Ones with a silver banner on top are the cheaper reissue series they did and they still sound good, but that's why they are typically cheaper.

They went through a period I believe in the early 80s with "smiley EQ" that a lot of people dislike but there's no definitive list of which ones those are.

Nearly all the Miles pressings are excellent. Same with the Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan. I think I'm up to 30 MoFi albums at this point and don't have any complaints about any of them. That T Rex album is fantastic.

Yep, this. I'm at 24 and they're pretty much all very very good to freaking insanely good.

Oh! And mofi Superfly! Did I mention that yet??

Don't be afraid if the silver labels either! I only own two but they both sound fantastic.
Superfly is a nice one too. I agree— don’t be afraid of silver labels but none of the silver labels I have sound AMAZING to me while a lot of the original master recording ones I have do sound incredible.
