I faced the reverse choice when I bought Carnegie Hall (already had Massey). Massey Hall is in my pantheon of all-time albums, but I don’t regret buying CH. I think MH is clearly better than CH (based on my personal tastes), but they’re both fantastic.Had to grab this one from music direct a few weeks ago even though it is fairly similar to the recent Carnegie Hall release. I really need to to conserve shelf space but they are both so good.
There’s probably a better thread for this, but I’m gonna put this here for two reasons: 1. It sounds amazing; and 2. I learned about it from the 45rpmAudiophile YouTube channel.
As of tonight (US west coast), there are 14 of 500 copies left of Air I (You), a 1993 ambient album by Pete Namlock that’s never been on vinyl and never will be repressed. I cannot recommend it highly enough if you are into ambient/electronic. Mostly instrumental w some French vocals on some tracks.
The album cover is gorgeous, as well, if you care about that sort of thing (I do).
I suppose, yes, with shipping to the US, it’s pricey. But the base price — 25 Euros for a gatefold double LP is more than reasonable these days.Yikes! That's a lot of coin!

Thank you for the tag. I listened to about 10min hopping around on the sample tracks available. I like what I hear, but not enough to convince myself to spend nearly $52 on something new to me.Does @Rip_City know about this one? Seems like something he’d be up for.
You think this Japanese pressing is better than the mono box pressing? Anywhere in the states to source this?
So I'll offer a gently contrasting opinion. Check out the cut of Moanin' on streaming. There is a joy of seeing a top band work through some things live in a set -- side note, I think that Shorter takes a 5+ minutes to find his voice and pace at the open of the set, it (my opinion) isn't his best. But Lee Morgan is pushing the bad hard on Moanin' -- pace, tight tight register and runs. I love and own great copies of the originals -- and sets like this allow me to hear those originals differently and with fresh ears. You don't really need this unless you have most of the releases @RHANDMJ mentioned. I absolutely love Blakey but there are so many others I will continue to spin over this one. Moanin, Indestructible, Free for All, Buhaina, Caravan, Freedom Rider, etc.
The mono is a different animal. The MOFI is stereo, and that's what I was comparing to.You think this Japanese pressing is better than the mono box pressing? Anywhere in the states to source this?

I would say I slightly prefer Carnegie Hall over Massey Hall. But they are different records of course, sets, halls, audience, etc. Great two have both though now.The sound quality on all the Neil stuff is so great. I got this a few weeks ago too and find myself spinning this and Carnegie a lot.
Yeah, I’d go with Massey just because i like the song selection a bit more but that just a preference thing.I would say I slightly prefer Carnegie Hall over Massey Hall. But they are different records of course, sets, halls, audience, etc. Great two have both though.
For me, his energy — and the energy of the crowd — is what distinguishes Massey. Carnegie feels more subdued overall. (As noted, I really like Carnegie so that’s not a criticism — just a comparison from my viewpoint).Yeah, I’d go with Massey just because i like the song selection a bit more but that just a preference thing.
I enjoy him yelling at the crowd on Carnegie though. That made me laugh out loud. For me, his energy — and the energy of the crowd — is what distinguishes Massey. Carnegie feels more subdued overall. (As noted, I really like Carnegie so that’s not a criticism — just a comparison from my viewpoint).
