Definitive Audiophile pressings

I think that Mingus is the only one I’m truly interested in picking up this RSD.

Yes I’ll grab Mingus and the 2 Evans if they r available Sunday AM.

And the Craft Art Pepper but I wish they would have made more of them for us on-line shoppers without a well stocked local. Between the relatively low cost & hype Art in mono may be a tough one to get day after. We will see.

The Pepper is what I expect to be the "big want" this year. Perhaps less so than the Quiet Kenny from last year because it's been reissued a lot, but still popular.
Only for a very narrow demographic.

I have the Art Pepper now, BTW, but haven't listened. It wasn't anywhere near the top of my list.

Last year, the 'big want' was actually the DeeGees.

I’m guessing that will actually be the Taylor Swift single which by the sounds it will be gone as soon as the doors open. It’s also the kind of release that is most likely to get a new demographic interested in the day.

Yeah my bad, my mind was on the jazz releases. The Quiet Kenny last year was pretty sought after and the resale was nuts, the Instagram jazz "community" was all over it and a lot of people were asking for a heads up on any reasonable resales.

Comparatively, the Pepper is much more well known and I imagine a lot of the jazz fans will be after it, which is a pretty hefty number. Even people with a vague interest in jazz would likely have heard of it.

@Joe Mac I agree, those Taylor Swift releases are insanely sought after. Last year I was close to the front of the line at my local (which is literally just down the road) and at the front was a middle aged woman that ended up buying a copy of all of those type of releases, the Lady Gaga was one that stuck in my mind. I chatted to the owner and he said he had never seen her before and expected to see them on eBay later. I do wonder how many of them are bought to be played and how many are just going to end up on a bedroom wall.

Honestly it’s a 7”, I love singles and would happily buy a pop single like that if it wasn’t on the album. Even still they do come out wassaaay less frequently than albums! Got to be in the right humour to keep jumping up and down!

Im the same. I have a decent stack of 7" releases but typically listen to them when I have a chunk of time free and will listen to a lot of them one after another.

Got a couple copies and both have pops on Songbird. Wonder if there is a bad batch or just an issue with this repress.

Also the version available on Walmart for $40 is the KG/SH 45 if anyone is still looking. Got my second copy there.
Wait, I’m confused. Is the Walmart version different from the other two? Or is it your “second copy” mentioned as having pops? And if it is that second copy with pops, don’t they both have the KG/SH runout? Oh, and if it’s not that second copy with pops and it’s a different version, does it have pops also? Sorry, just trying to sort this out. :D

Quiet Kenny wasn’t too tough to find over here if you were looking for it right when online sales opened up. I wasn’t even planning on picking it up initially but grabbed it from Luna Records when I ordered a copy of the Jonathan Richman release. I think it did go pretty fast but I think if it’s a big want and you’re on the ball, I think the Art Pepper will be able to be had….

That being said, I plan on getting up at 3:00 AM Saturday morning and getting in line early at my local. There is nothing on the my list that I couldn’t live without but I am a weirdo who enjoys conversating with other music obsessed weirdos for a few hours prior to the store opening so I shouldn’t have any issues getting everything on my list.

Both are the KG/SH 45, just got them from two different places because of the price, one of those places being Walmart.

Both have pops. :)

My “local” is more like a hundred mile round trip and the sole real option. No store hopping here. What I would give for a Plaidroom experience within an hours drive in any direction.

I enjoy the line but then the store just opens the door in what quickly evolves into a mad free-for-all into a small space. Unless they changed it in the past couple yrs due to pandemic that is. Prices usually a couple $$$s over retail due to limited comp. I find the whole experience very unpleasant trying to see and get to the titles from a rather limited stock.

I was actually concerned about the repress just due to how garbage nearly every pressing plant has been recently in terms of QC. I'm not exactly surprised if this turns out to be a pressing wide issue.
