Yea--this as a vinyl reissue has been rumored for a bit now. I wish they did Elvis in Memphis as a regular MoFi since that album rules...but will probably just stick with my SC pressing over the One Step.
The SC pressing is great

Damn 3am is dedication! Last year I popped out around 7am, grabbed a coffee then headed over and got in line. I think I was maybe 4th-5th. Hoping its similar this year.Quiet Kenny wasn’t too tough to find over here if you were looking for it right when online sales opened up. I wasn’t even planning on picking it up initially but grabbed it from Luna Records when I ordered a copy of the Jonathan Richman release. I think it did go pretty fast but I think if it’s a big want and you’re on the ball, I think the Art Pepper will be able to be had….
That being said, I plan on getting up at 3:00 AM Saturday morning and getting in line early at my local. There is nothing on the my list that I couldn’t live without but I am a weirdo who enjoys conversating with other music obsessed weirdos for a few hours prior to the store opening so I shouldn’t have any issues getting everything on my list.
Im fortunate enough to have a first mono pressing and it sounds fantastic. I guess its down to personal tastes though, but I would say that the precedent is there for mono reissues to be really good.Anyone know if the Art Pepper album in mono is the way to go? I like the album but I don’t have a vinyl copy. I was going to get the stereo version later this fall.
Nancy Sinatra visits RTI.
Anyone know if there's a difference (sound wise) between the 2009 and 2011 version of Harvest?
I kind of like hard panned stereo jazz (I know it’s sacrilege) but only if I’m listening through my speakers, which is a majority of the time anyway. If I can get the mono I definitely will though. Craft’s reissues are always great.Stereo is hard panned, so I would prefer the mono. I have the OJC already which is stereo.
It depends on the recording for me. This one through speakers isn't bad at all and DuNann knew what he was doing with stereo probably better than most other engineers at the time. Bothers me much more on headphones than speakers. IIRC, the OJC I have has some bleed from left and right so its not a 100% hard pan.I kind of like hard panned stereo jazz (I know it’s sacrilege) but only if I’m listening through my speakers, which is a majority of the time anyway. I'm going to wait for the stereo in Nov unless one falls in my lap after the weekend. I have the AP Gold Cd to hold me over until then. I can share the flac files if someone wants them, pm.The Art Pepper stereo mix on streaming sounds pretty dang amazing to me.
Please let us know what good tidbits are in that boom boom articleFYI. The new edition of Stereophile has a very good article/interview with Kevin Gray. I’m going to have to read it through a couple times.
And the music section starts out with a review of the RSD Bill Evans titles……
From Stereophile May 2022 by Fred Kaplan “Do we need yet another unearthed recording of the Bill Evans trio? I count 22 al- bums or boxed sets—a total of 49 polycarbonate or vinyl discs—of posthumously released sessions, many of them in just the last few years. But this latest discov- ery, recorded in Buenos Aires in September 1979, is a stunner. So, to answer the question above: Yes, we do need this recording.
The Resonance 2-LP set (also available as 2 CDs; both sets include extensive photos
and liner notes) is the album’s first commercial release. An Argentine label issued a boot- leg several years ago and a German CD followed, made by recording the LP. (You can hear the surface noise.) Both go for a pretty price on the second-hand market. So, Inner Spirit—as Resonance has titled the album—qualifies for a Revinylization pick. It’s one of the best late-era Evans albums, period.”
And I was planning to pass on these! Self control slipping away…And the music section starts out with a review of the RSD Bill Evans titles……

Me too. Still not certain, I've got the Sony Japan release of Bill Evans Live in Tokyo on the way, looks like Inner Spirit was recorded on the back of that. And I was planning to pass on these! Self control slipping away…
Make me 3!And I was planning to pass on these! Self control slipping away…
What sort of prices are you are seeing? I haven’t looked properly yet. I generally wait for the Resonance titles to come through as stock at Jazz messengers these days.Make me 3!
I think I have settled on 2 releases this year, which are significantly less than usual but still comes out to £145 - Charles Mingus - The Lost Album From Ronnie Scott's and Pepper Adams - Live at Room At The Top.
I have always been an advocate for Resonance releases. Sure the original recording quality isn't always the best but the package and booklet really build the narrative for me and I feel like I'm there watching them perform. Even then I wouldn't say the audio of their worst release is atrocious, I just think we have become spoilt with audiophile pressings. Usually, I would have my eye on the Bill Evans. 2 releases in one hit is pushing a bit for me though especially considering I have 5 Evans releases from Resonance alone! But with the price being so high now im just going to leave them this year.
So my local has them listed at these prices:What sort of prices are you are seeing? I haven’t looked properly yet. I generally wait for the Resonance titles to come through as stock at Jazz messengers these days.
Damn. That's a lot of cash for 4 titles. So my local has them listed at these prices:
£47 - Bill Evans - Inner Spirit: The 1979 Concert At The Teatro General San Martín, Buenos Aires
£47 - Bill Evans - Morning Glory: The 1973 Concert At The Teatro Gran Rex, Buenos Aires
£77 - Charles Mingus - The Lost Album From Ronnie Scott's
£68 - Pepper Adams - Live at Room At The Top (Elemental not Resonance but I will still add it here)
