Definitive Audiophile pressings

Crossposting here from the RSD 2022 thread:

I picked up a copy of Ray Charles' "Genius Loves Company" at this small local shop near me. The shop doesn't really do new inventory; its fairly new and has mostly used stuff aside from the more popular stuff. There's a small "jazz/soul" bin and there was an open, gold colored copy of "Genius" for $25. I only saw black copies existing on Discogs. But it has "BG" in the dead wax and couldn't pass up the price.

Couldn't find much info on it while I was there by looking up the UPC, but when I got home all of my searches show that there was an RSD version set to come out last week, but its been pushed to June 18. The UPC doesn't match the one on the a few shops showing the release. Nothing comes up for the UPC (708857212019).

I'm really confused in how it wound up in that shop, even if it did come out just last week. Nonetheless, the mastering is very, very good. I only have a CD to compare but very happy to have stumbled on this.

Also, this thing sounds incredible - such a great album. And it turns out I ordered one a year ago, forgot, ordered another, received it, and just got a shipping notice for the back order.

Depending on the price, I'd buy that backordered one off ya if you're looking to sell it!

Interesting that it's a Sound Lab release which I believe means they couldn't get the master tapes. Also on the MOFI site but I had to search for it.

just means they can't confirm that it's the ORIGINAL master tape but probably still a good copy tape at least. Quite a few have been like this lately--I think T. Rex was and that pressing rules.

Yeah I think the two Dylan mono ones I have are like that because parts of the master tape are lost/destroyed so what was usable was mixed with some second and third generation copies. The RA Love Is Hell too because the Japanese CD release bonus stuff they put on disc 3 was could only be sourced digitally. They all sound brilliant !

I asked a while back in here about Acoustic Sounds duty charges and I think @Turbo or @avecigrec or @Hollywood had mentioned receiving a shipment and wondering if a further duty charge would arrive later. Did it ever? I just got a shipment with no charges, none listed on the tracking report and they didn't even ask me to sign for it. Just left it on my porch. But there's almost always those stupid brokerage fees at the very least. I'm wondering if the current shipping cost from AS just includes this stuff, even though it's not advertised as such.

I have the MOV version which sounds pretty good but would definitely like to see if this is an upgrade.
