Definitive Audiophile pressings

Also usually the reason I feel like Rhino would use different masterings for EU editions was that I think they usually would press European version at Pallas or somewhere in Europe, and the US version would get pressed at RTI in California. Logistical reasons I'm sure.......but the Marvin Gaye is all pressed at GZ in Czech Republic (even says made in Czech Republic on the jacket I believe). So very curious.

EDIT: weren't some pressed Precision in Canada (GZ west) ? Maybe that's the answer

Mine has a hype sticker saying pressed at Precision.

Well, this is kind of wild. Regarding the Kevin Gray (or not actually Kevin Gray...) pressing of the Marvin Gaye What's Going On 50th pressing for the EU specifically.

That's really shitty. I actually have a few Lawrie Dunster cuts, pretty much the Dublin Vinyl pressings I have. All are actually really well done. Dublin Vinyl is an excellent plant too. Definitely better than GZ by a mile. But Lawrie Dunster is not Kevin Gray and the Kevin Gray remaster of this is sublime. It would have been an impossible feat for him to even match that. What an awful position to put the guy in.

It says in the video that the EU versions are pressed at Dublin Vinyl (actually an excellent plant) and it seems to also say it on the hype sticker of that version.

Right, but I don't think those have hype stickers that say "cut by Kevin Gray" on them...

Also a digital transfer as opposed to the AAA Boom Boom cut.

I've been caught out a few times with this, it's never so excplicit as the hype sticker giving the wrong details. Usually it's marketed as a KG cut (or something similar) & you only find out it isn't when you see the dead wax.

I don't know why they don't just ship plates to pressing plants across the world, I know RTI used to this. To get different masterings on the same release is always a pain.

Had quite a few record store day titles arrive today. Just watching the Champions league game, so haven't listened to any, but on e I picked up was the Stevie Nicks, was always disappointed the VMP one went so quick. I don't know much about this one, but in the reissue credits it says remastered by Dan Hersch @ D2 Mastering LA. And in the dead wax as CB.

So I'm assuming this is a brand new remaster cut by Bellers? Or, is this a repress of an existing sellers pressing? For some reason I thought it was a repress but can't see one that fits.

I think nearly everybody has cut this album now haha. BG cut it in 2016, RKS cut it for VMP and now Bellers I guess. I don't know that Bellman has done it before and he isn't even listed in the deadwax or anything on discog for the RSD version from what I can see.

I was going to post this yesterday but forgot....the EU one is different plates and not a KG cut despite having the same hype sticker.

@Joe Mac did you ever pick up the KG What's Going On?

No I didn’t, just sticking with my standard press. Is it the usual rhino trick of named engineer in US and optimal in house dude HL for the EU? He actually is pretty good to be fair to him.

It's not Rhino but yea they did the ol' switcheroo. KG cut AAA in the US/cut at Precision, then cut from digital at Dublin Vinyl for the EU/UK release by Lawrie Dunster...but with the KG Hype Sticker

Ah! Randomly Dublin Vinyl is a really brilliant plant and Precision is shit. On the other hand as good as Lawrie’s curvepusher remasters are he ain’t KG either. Also it’s a little sketchy of the label to use that for the 50th because that’s 99% reusing plates that Dublin Vinyl had made when it was a LovesVinyl AoTM a while back…

I'll update cogs with dead wax details when I give it a listen. I can't understand why they've taken the time to add loads of random numbers and miss out the important 'CB'

I'm quite hopeful this will sound good, but looking at the cogs comments. (I really hope I've avoided any infilll)

very strange...maybe that's where the mixup occurred? not seeing any lovesvinyl specific pressings of it on discogs but didn't look too hard.

another backorder charge at AS today...so seems like some more of the prestige titles might be coming into stock.

edit: called in because my CC got stolen awhile back and my backorder had the old card. looks like these were in stock from my order:

Coltrane - Coltrane
John Coltrane / With The Red Garland Trio
Elmo Hope - Informal Jazz

I got a backorder charge today - my outstanding albums are Bags' Groove and Relaxin' With Miles

No charge on my end right now, and I have Coltrane/Red Garland, Informal Jazz, and Relaxin (among many others) on backorder. Hmm...

It will be kinda funny if the Craft and AP ship at the same time...my One Step just shipped.

Here's an update video from Chad too:

Interesting that they upped the numbers. he says Lightnin Hopkins Goin Away got 3,100 repressed and are almost all gone.
