Definitive Audiophile pressings

Didn't someone on here buy that White Stripes one? Can't remember seeing any reviews of it on here though.
@marshall got it i think?
I'm a bit confused by this release though because I think VMP and Bruce Botnick seemed to indicate that the mono tape was fucked and they couldn't use it for the VMP release so they had to digitize it...

Don't think I've seen mention of this here but it looks and sounds (via youtube) very good. Anyone have this Pure Pleasure pressing?

Don't have this one, but the original version Left Alone has been on my wantlist for awhile

ERC The Doors - self-titled mono was just announced if anybody wants to drop a ton of money!

I feel like ERC is trolling Mikeowneroftheingrooveinphoenixarizona with this one. He says in almost every video that The Doors are his favorite band and I’ve heard him say several times that this album is one of his grails.

No way he doesn’t buy this and then make another ERC review video lol

Interesting ‘review’ of Relaxin’ over on one of the other forums. Curious to see how folks here get on with their copies. Always have to take feedback from that site with a big dash of salt…

Yes I have the White Stripes one. It's brilliant for what it is. It is a flawless pressing with really incredible depth but since it is not mixed or equalized, it's a different sound to the familiar press. More guitar and vocal forward and less drums. It is one of my top 10 records so I had to grab it (sold some valuable records to offset the cost).

Interestingly, Hoffman himself (who I know isn't the most truthful guy...) seems to think the Doors ERC isn't from the "original dedicated mono master tapes" as they claim...but instead from the US "Leadered, EQ'd, Duplicate Original. In other words, a "leveled" cutting dub." That's some pretty loose interpreting of "original dedicated mono master" by ERC...

in true hoffman fashion, one guy says it sounds sublime. another is saying that it sounds bright through his speakers that have "super tweeters" haha.

In fairness, Tannoy Heritage speakers are exceptional, lend to warm, the super tweeters are meant to be brilliant and if they’re showing a pressing to be bright I’m saying it’s bright unless there is some really analytical gear upstream.

yea looks like the guy has: Tannoy Kensington GR with Tannoy SuperTweeters. Just interesting he's one of three to say it's "it's a mess" and way too bright.

Totally but he’s running absolutely stunning speakers that are more than double the price of my dream speaker, their little brother the Turnbury. I think that’s an easy punchline and if his system is trending bright I’d put all my money on it being a component upstream and not that.

It's a bright soundstage.. sounds live, real in room and makes a fantastic listening stage.
Can't tell which channels are producing the sound. It's harmonious .

I am not the best reviewer but I think most will like this mastering.

Blacks are dead silent.

I've only listened previously to this album on Qobuz.

I will say one of the big takeaways from hearing Rumours with this clarity is that the guitar is definitely mixed as the star of the show, it's in front of absolutely everything and by far has the most natural sound of any instruments on the album. The other thing is I never realized what a "metallic" sound this record has. Everything aside from the guitars has various effects on it that lend a kind of metallic sheen to the vocals, synth and drums. And the vocals are much farther back in the mix than I had expected. I've heard all these songs before but only on the radio and it's a very different experience hearing them with this clarity.
We listened to at least part of this at your place the other month, right?
Yeah Lindsay definitely put himself as the controller in chief of this iteration of the band and fitted the other talents around his vision. Musically it was probably the best call given just how good Rumours and Tusk both are. Personally, and in terms of the band dynamic, probably less so given that he’s by reputation an odd abrasive character alongside the other dramas and half of Columbia’s gross exports being in the studio during the recording. I gotta say I got a real new appriecation for just how good John and Mick are as a rhythm section from this press.
While we're on the topic, anyone know how that recent Tusk reissue is quality wise? Or whats the current go to copy on that?
Would also like to know. An OG Canadian pressing is all I ever had, and it sounds great to me. But this is all making me a little more curious.

Folks, thoughts? Anyone got it?
Don't have it, but it's still in print but OOS currently:

Not sure if that's the going rate for 2LP MoFis or not by you. I think I have enough of the other Dylan MoFis + the mono box so a greatest hits comp isn't all that necessary for me.

I cleaned and listened to the Bellers cut of Tusk and thought it was solid. I can try to dust off my OG too if I still have it to listen. I might have given it to a friend though after I got the Bellers.

It's probably about $25-30 over what a 2x45rpm MOFI goes for these days around here, but not crazy for recently OOS titles.

No we didn't listen to that one. I just got it recently.

@MikeH yeah that's around the going rate in downtown Toronto for 2 LP 45 Mofi's. They seem to have applied a Bob Dylan price bump on this one. Usually more like $80ish...
