Definitive Audiophile pressings

So what's the word on the Miles Relaxin One-step? I see it is still available. I'm tempted to upgrade from my RTI-pressed OJC copy.

Edit: looks like some Discogs reviews complaining about off-center pressings and their records being very dirty/scuffed out the sleeve. Not a good sign for a $110 record.
I think you should go for it. I would really love to claim your OJC copy in the PIF thread 😃

Yes, not a lot, but a few, like a Jeff Beck and a couple of Miles.
Okay cool thanks, might take a shot. It's Ella so I know they can be trusted. But definitely a lot of... OPINIONS online for some of these Digital Mastersound Series so I'm kinda on the fence.

What's the acceptable tolerance for an off-center pressing?
I have not had bad experiences so I don't pay attention to this much.

Totally different for every listener. I can often hear rotation with sustained piano or guitar chords if the pressing isn't close to perfect, but I'm particularly sensitive to it. If it becomes distracting during the listen, I just won't tolerate it. Up on Discogs or back to the shop.

I've found that a speed controller on belt drive decks is pretty much a must for me as well. Helps a lot with stability.

I listened to the final guitar chord on Fleetwood Mac "I Don't Want To Know" about 20 times on high res vs vinyl to try to figure out if the warble was the off centre pressing, or the slight wah wah effect on the guitar.

Final verdict, indeterminate. It stays.

I think it’s time for a few beers?

It's funny - I was so overloaded with DSOTM growing up via FM radio and my own devices that it's the last Pink Floyd record I ever reach for. And when I do, it's Easy Star All Stars 'Dub Side Of The Moon' because it's different. Maybe investing in a nice copy would rekindle the romance.

I had a similar experience, except the thing that brought me back to it, and it brought me back hard, is the 5.1 surround mix on the SACD. I also have the recent Grundman remaster vinyl.
