Definitive Audiophile pressings

It's funny - I was so overloaded with DSOTM growing up via FM radio and my own devices that it's the last Pink Floyd record I ever reach for. And when I do, it's Easy Star All Stars 'Dub Side Of The Moon' because it's different. Maybe investing in a nice copy would rekindle the romance.
I agree with this totally. But my experience of hearing these early Mofis is that they sound so dang good that its kinda a whole new experience. I don't know if it will hold true for this one as I do have the very good Grundman already. But I gotta try.

I don’t follow/buy audiophile stuff enough to be too knowledgeable on the subject but I thought I read somewhere that there was a MoFi from the 1980s era was lacking in bass? I have no idea if that is an issue with DSOTM in particular just curious, have you had a chance to listen to this particular version. I know you said you love the Bowie MoFi so I guess this would likely fall into that category as well.

Yeah I've heard that about a lot of the 80s Mofi's in general mainly in regards to the mid range. But it's not something that I've found in the ones I've heard on my system. I'm sure it helps that I've got 3 10 inch woofers between the L100s and my sub. I suspect it won't be an issue. Ziggy is basically my reference album art this point.

There's a Wish You Were Here half speed that's supposedly lacking in bass. I own it, it's not lacking in bass. That may be the one you're thinking of.

Bravo. I wish they'd press 40K of all their one-steps.

The OG of this one is SO good sounding, mastered by Bernie Grandman. Pretty dang easy to find. Makes it tough for me to pull the trigger on a $100 version.

Hoffman fanatics claimed that all the 80s MoFis suffered from Smiley face EQ. I have quite a few of them now and haven’t found it to be an issue at all. As @Mather said, that Ziggy Bowie MoFi is incredible. Lots of others sound excellent too and that JVC vinyl formula is so good

Right so they decide to enter the 80s with a one step by a peadophile. I suppose it mixes well with the Clapton and Crosby picks. Classy all around.
Truth. Also, not sure how they got a license to press this to vinyl on the 40th anniversary either. Couldn’t have been cheap and probably part of the reason it’s 40k. I do wonder how fast this will go?

Yes also make hay while the sun shines. Whatever I might think of the ethics of such a pick it’s going to shift and lots. It’s by far and away the most mainstream album that it’s possible to do. If you’re going to do 40,000 of this niche format this is the album you’d do it for.
