Definitive Audiophile pressings

My most recent Record City Japan order, all with EX vinyl. And I too have been very impressed with the quality of jackets graded as VG+.

1 LP JPY Johnny Coles - Little Johnny C (BLUE NOTE) (GXK8204) (1287166)
1 LP JPY Traffic - John Barleycorn Must Die (ISLAND) (SFX7205) (1287632)
1 LP JPY Kenny Dorham - Whistle Stop (BLUE NOTE) (BN4063,BST84063) (1287156)
1 LP JPY Lester Young - President Plays (VERVE) (MV2084) (1287288)

For now. But yeah, I hear you.
Yeah it's a long game I suppose.

Someone said something about the Yen expecting to lose more value.
Here's a chart for perspective, which keeps making RCJP buys more favorable for dollars. It’s like a Target special trick but for Japan.
(Sorry for the hijack)

from the guy on reddit right? i feel like you could do better...but...did they say if it's the first MoFi or the 2nd MoFi pressing?

edit: maybe can't do better on the price...it has really skyrocketed lately.

Waiting to hear which pressing it is. He said it's just a tiny bit of static for 20 seconds. Is one pressing better than the other? For $80 for the definitive best I'm ok with the price I think

I'd have to look up again which one people prefer. With that said, I don't think either MoFi is the definitive best pressing of DSOTM. It's probably top 5 though! and $80 if the album is in really great condition is probably worth it now with how the prices on MoFis have gone up.

This is my recollection, not better than the 30th, obviously early UKs, etc. Even early US Wallys are really good and affordable.

Although when you look at discogs reviews, it's almost impossible to rank different versions since they say everything is amazing.

it's one of those albums that is probably hard to screw up sonically since it was recorded so well. i prefer the KG 30th (no surprise) but haven't heard a 1st press UK which seems to be the hands-down favorite. don't have that kind of money to spend though haha. i have heard the MoFi (think @Mather just got one too?) and it did sound great still. so the MoFi for $80 might be best at that price point. Think the 30th has really skyrocketed.

I have the 30th, mofi, and newer press and 30th is by far my favorite

Honestly, the best sounding version of this record is going to be the one you can find among these top 5-10 that is quietest.

The in groove guy did a video on the DSOTM rankings.
He always poops on JP pressings so I don't pay too much attention.

For what it's worth, the Mofi was pretty low on his list, except the UHQR type release.

I guess all the 70s US pressings are not considered in top 5.

How much is the 30th going for?

This one is apparently silent except for 20 seconds between money and us and them. Guy said he's being as critical as possible because it's mofi and his wife who was listening didn't notice it.

Yea--no clue why he shits on japanese pressings. Part of why i don't trust his reviews whole-heartedly.

I think most people agree the UK 1A is best, then followed by some order of 30th anniversary, japanese ProUse and MoFi (maybe one or two others). @Russ I is right in that whatever the quietest pressing you can get out of those will be your best bet.

I wouldn't buy a sealed one unless it's a really good deal, since some people had issues with noise on the pressing. also check ebay--sometimes they pop up for around $100 still.

Also…don’t be surprised if AP does something with this soon…lots of teasing has been done by them
