Definitive Audiophile pressings

Yea--no clue why he shits on japanese pressings. Part of why i don't trust his reviews whole-heartedly.

I think most people agree the UK 1A is best, then followed by some order of 30th anniversary, japanese ProUse and MoFi (maybe one or two others). @Russ I is right in that whatever the quietest pressing you can get out of those will be your best bet.
I have the Pro Use incoming. After hearing a JP 1st press, I'm really curious.
I thought the 1st press was amazing. Just wasn't VG+ as presented.

it's one of those albums that is probably hard to screw up sonically since it was recorded so well. i prefer the KG 30th (no surprise) but haven't heard a 1st press UK which seems to be the hands-down favorite. don't have that kind of money to spend though haha. i have heard the MoFi (think @Mather just got one too?) and it did sound great still. so the MoFi for $80 might be best at that price point. Think the 30th has really skyrocketed.
The Mofi sounds great and it's the best copy I have and I'm done with looking at this point but I can absolutely see where it could be outdone by other copies. But because of the sheer impossibility of getting a clean (to my standards) UK 1st press or even a clean 30th for the money I'd want to spend, I'm good as this first press Mofi is essentially mint. It kills the BG in my books and I just wanted that clean clear sound that the BGs lack. This gave me that so I'm good.

True--I was going to say @bdm105 the 50th anniversary is coming up next year...i'd assume SOMEBODY is going to do some impressive reissue for it.

And then all of our money will be 💸💸💸

Thanks gang. I'll probably get this mofi for $80 and if/when a 50th anniversary comes I'll pre-order if it seems like it will be better then sell the mofi. I don't see the mofi losing too much value so even if it's sold for $50 it's worth it for now it seems

Waiting to hear which pressing it is. He said it's just a tiny bit of static for 20 seconds. Is one pressing better than the other? For $80 for the definitive best I'm ok with the price I think
I bought one for $35 last fall at a show that was VG/G+. Wound up selling it not too long after bc the 2003 30th Anniversary sounded much better to me. I like that album with a lot of depth and bass and the MoFi lacked that IMO.

Yeah I was also going to say that my rig makes up for that with a lot of these JP pressings and whatnot. Two 12s on the L100s and a 10 inch 800 watt sub tend to take care of that mid/low end where it may be lacking. I found the BG almost too bassy for my tastes.

That being said I would love to get my hands on a clean KPG. But the prices are just too high for me. But I bet it's fantastic.

It does not. The defect is on side one during time. I made sure to get an A3 to avoid that issue!

In the PF thread, check the UK archives link.

This Fitch guy has done some amazing research

"Pressing Information: Pressings that use A-2 / B-2 lacquers have minor sound quality issues, particularly during the song, Money. Some copies also have a skip pressed into the grooves during the song Money. Such issues were corrected with the A-3 / B-3 cuttings, with the exception of the peak level distortion during the clocks at the beginning of the song Time (the MFSL UHQR LP is the only vinyl pressing without such distortion).
Copies of the Dark Side of the Moon LP with solid blue triangle labels without any stamper or mother numbers in the matrix are not U.K. releases (they are likely from Denmark). All U.K. EMI releases will have some sort of stamping code in the matrix."
