Definitive Audiophile pressings

My credit card number was stolen a few days ago. I tried to cancel the order because I didn't really want it that bad, but Walmart wouldn't cancel it. Then the charge for the set was declined by my cc company. So I thought that was it but Walmart shipped me the box set anyway. And no charge ever went through.

Well, damn . Happy you could get some positive out of the whole ordeal!

I’ve had a few preorders with Walmart that I have cancelled. It’s a pain to cancel them. Every time I canceled, the records were still sent and I was not charged. They are a clown show

Before anyone tries this, they did try to charge me, but it was denied because they were using the number that was stolen. Not that you shouldn't screw Walmart for all they are worth.

Strange. I cancelled orders and they showed as cancelled in my app. Never got a charge and the vinyl just showed up randomly. No shipping notification or anything.

Huge “sale” over at acoustic sounds

Great deals …

Just heading over here to rant about this. :) You beat me to it. Usually, “scratch and dent” and damage returns get big discounts. Guess vinyl retailing handles it differently…….

VMP Grateful Dead box from $600 - $1000 depending on how badly it is beat up.

What gets me is that Chad/QRP has said they are repressing that box. Unless something has changed, that box retailed for like $400/450.

Yes, I don’t know any other industry where one of the premier manufacturers/retailers would sell their own returned/damaged/flawed/leftover items at a massive premium and not be racked over the coals about it. But, in vinyl world it is just considered fair business practices given the “collectability” of the product.

You would think they were struggling and just just barely managing to pay the bills. Because if you were doing really well what little extra profit you would generate like this would be far out weighed by the hit to your business reputation.

Sadly when AS does this or when MD sells marked up new just out-of-print MoFi titles there isn’t much a vinyl buyer can do. They control such a large percentage of the premium audiophile vinyl market the buyer (or independent resellers for that matter) is at such a disadvantage that normal business practices become whatever the biggest decides they are.

And, I have preorders in at both of them. Great products, I want to buy them, and often direct is the best option. However, when I see stuff like this I don’t have to like it. 😖

Sorry for long post. A lot of pent up frustration going on in many markets right now with inflation, shortages, etc. I’m feeling it tonight.
