Definitive Audiophile pressings

Speaking of the American Beauty MoFi, is that gone gone or awaiting a repress gone?
My understanding is the 2xLP 45rpm is gone gone, as in Sold Out. I did the same as @keylime_5 and ponied up the $100 on Discogs. MoFi could always do a 33 1/3 or One Step pressing still but the 45rpm releases are the cream of the crop and fairly available on the secondary market if you don’t mind forking over $100 bucks.

That is where the differentiation between the Mofi and Musicdirect listing statuses confused me. I may just have to follow that lead and worry about MD later...

MoFi has 4 statuses; In Stock, Awaiting Repress, Out Of Stock, and Sold Out which is a bit much but from my understanding Awaiting Repress and Out Of Stock means more should eventually pop back up for retail sale but Sold Out means there is no more coming…at least in that particular format.

Ugh. Yeah I think I need to take that plunge soon then. Music Direct is still taking orders on the 2x45 but that seems less definitive.

My credit card number was stolen a few days ago. I tried to cancel the order because I didn't really want it that bad, but Walmart wouldn't cancel it. Then the charge for the set was declined by my cc company. So I thought that was it but Walmart shipped me the box set anyway. And no charge ever went through.
Similar happened to me with a Nintendo switch from Walmart once…delivery was scheduled for it and it didn’t show up but said delivered. I called Walmart and they said it was oversold and refunded my card. The switch showed up two days later

Anyone here happen to have Monk - Solo Monk Music On Vinyl Pressing ? There is a copy that's a bit high (37) compared to discogs nearby to where we will be again tomorrow that I would not mind grabbing if I knew the press was good.

Music Direct actually has the more reliable statuses for MoFi in my experience. If you can order it there, 9/10 times you’ll eventually get it. If it’s not on their site anymore it’s usually OOP. MD owns MoFi.
Interesting, So you think the American Beauty will eventually be repressed then even though it’s listed as sold out on MoFi?

I think it will be repressed. It was never limited to a certain number as far as I know, just “limited numbered edition”. In my experience, if it’s at MD, it’s not out of print. It may take them 2 years, but I’d guess it would be back.

You could always call Music Direct and ask them? You may get a generic answer but…worth a shot. I think I have a backorder for that one from a few months ago and they don’t charge until it ships

I'll be quite surprised if it isn't. There are a few GD albums that are perennial moneymakers and American beauty is definitely the biggest one of those. One-step within 5 years, for sure. They're not just going to leave money on the table by not doing it, unless there's a great reason not to.

Ah Well, it’s doesn’t matter much now for me since I went ahead and purchased one off of Discogs for $100 bucks mainly because I was under the impression that MoFi had maxed out that title. As it has been said many times on this thread already. I which they would just have one sales operation as opposed to two (ideally sell all the albums on MoFi via MoFi and everything else from Music Direct) it would make for a more consistent experience.

The “money maker” portion is only important within the context of what their contract agreement is with Warner Music. If the could, I am sure they will keep them in print forever (though it feels silly to number them in that instance) but if the contract is for 10 year or 10,000 copies then the only way they could press more once that capacity is met is if they came to terms on a new agreement with Warner. I hope they do but who knows.

guy really gets called all sorts of names doesn't he, lol
It’s odd, really. At worst he’s benign and seems like a live-and-let-live kind of person, and there’s no obligation to watch him. Sure, he obviously has plenty of money, but he also strikes me as humble (yes, humble even though he has a seemingly unlimited budget for audiophile vinyl) and caring (based on his comments on Ukraine, other YouTubers, and some other stuff).

He’s addressed haters a couple of times, and his line is basically — “I do what I do bc it’s what I’m interested in doing. Simple as that. If you want in depth reviews/analysis/history of the music, etc., there are other channels for that bc they do what they’re interested in doing.”

I’ve actually benefitted greatly from his strong background w/ electronic music and recommendations, including one of my favorite releases/reissues from the last couple years (Pete Namlook/Air - Air) and a few other electronic releases I had no clue about but really enjoy. He also has in depth experience w/ 80s new wave/alternative/punk.
