Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

I would prefer to save up for a better phono stage to match the rest of my high(ish)-end gear.

Youā€™re right. Iā€™d look to get something like the MX-VYNL or the Aria, or an equivalent or better, if you can get them, to give you the flexibility to try different things. Youā€™ve certainly got a good enough table to be able to experiment with cartridges in the future if you get that itch. You also did right prioritising the stylus right now.

Anyone with any experience with or thoughts about this amp?

No experience, but Iā€™ve heard good things about the brand.

This one though? Itā€™s a odd duck. Stereo 3.5 mm input on the front panel. Balanced XLR on the rear. No RCA inputs at all- might be useful of oneā€™s phono stage has XLR outs and their other source is a phone or other digital audio player. At $1200, the value proposition seems off too.

But thatā€™s just my opinion.

Iā€™ve just noticed this cartridge de-coupler popping up in my threads a lot. Itā€™s the Funk Firm Houdini. What do we all think?

Funk Firm has a very good reputation so thereā€™s that. The other side is Ā£300.

Although they specifically mention tables without adjustable VTA (Rega) I donā€™t get it. VTA will be way off. Itā€™ll work fine for those with VTA adjustable arms though.

Hereā€™s a thread. At $400 though...,

The kit comes with a 6mm shim for under the tonearm for those tables. There is a video of a customer fitting it to a p3 on their Facebook page as part of their promo campaign.

Sorry, I didnā€™t see that. I donā€™t FB.

That shim wonā€™t be one size fits all though. for example Rega cartridges are short while Ortofons are tall. Put a 6mm shim on a Rega and you wonā€™t be able to close the dust cover without an underslung counterweight.
