Um, how do the screws work on that decoupler? Do you just drive extra long screws through the whole thing? If so, wouldn't they "couple" the cartridge to the arm? Even worse, might they rattle as the decoupler does its work?

Nope. Completely wrong.

For something like a Grado with no captive nut you use two. One you screw the cartridge to it from the bottom and the second screws it to the tonearm from above. For captive nuts there is a different one. you screw it to the cartridge through little holes in that one to access the screw heads. You then screw it onto the headshell from above.

I like Funk Firm as a company, although their stuff is a tad overpriced in general IMO. At first glance I can't argue the theory, it has some merit, but in reading the copy it really seems to have a certain type of "audiophile" in it's sites.......

This makes more sense, after all producers were happy with the sound they created. Why and how did it go wrong? It can only be at the replay end.

Honestly, at a more reasonable price point around $100 I would be game to give it a test and see, but at this price point there are way to many "proven" options you can toss at your system for improved sound. .

I’ve just noticed this cartridge de-coupler popping up in my threads a lot. It’s the Funk Firm Houdini. What do we all think?

Even if this piece does wonders you really need a turntable with some flexibility. Lots of VTA travel to cover that extra 6mm, plus the screws are likely heavier to you may need to factor in your counterweight. Seems like an awful lot of effort in addition to the cost.

screws are nylon and they say 2g extra weight for the whole thing, most people should have 2g play or the option of a heavier counterweight.

I agree on the VTA point but yeah I see the cost as the most prohibitive thing here.

How do we feel about Analog Seduction? Anyone stateside ever buy from these guys?

Yeah I’ve bought pretty much everything in my system from them. Really good guys and usually really fair on shipping. They only do standard royal mail shipping on smaller items so it might take a long time to get across the Atlantic with everything that's going off right now.

Awesome. They’re like $75 cheaper on a stylus replacement than anyone over here, so I might be ok on a little delay if they’re reputable.

Yeah if it’s as bad as what @Mather is saying I’d ring/email them and ask if they can use a different shipping method. At $75 cheaper you’ve still got quite a bit of margin there even if a little of it is eaten up by pricier shipping.

I guess I could always order and if my current stylus gets too annoying I could go back to my backup 1006 stylus while I wait it out too. That one doesn’t have a ton of hours on it.

The sent the same thing 3 times, over 3 months and then they all arrived at the same time. So who knows, I sent the two extra back to them. So it could be fine, or it could take 3 months.

Which is pretty much the same story in the other direction with USPS as well (I’ve never bought anything from Canada to know from your bit), just taking forever! I have had deliveries from DHL and FedEx arrive relatively quickly from the US though!
