February 2025 Spin Challenge

Day 4 - Rosa Parks Day - Play something that stood it's ground, and fought for what's right.

Solange - A Seat at the Table

Standing up for what's right by not asking for an audience, but by demanding one. Addressing the near daily microaggressions experienced by black people in America (racial profiling, police brutality, gentrification) while sharing the beauty of black culture.
Ten year anniversary next year.

Day 3 - National Golden Retriever Day - Play a record that you keep coming back to, like that retriever endlessly chasing the ball.

My gateway to jazz. This copy sounds pretty good, but I have always wondered how much better an audiophile version would sound.

EDIT:

This is the one I have:
Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis (1959).

It says it’s a KG cut, mastered at Cohearent and pressed by RTI.
I’m gonna take this as a “dude, you’re fine, go spend on something else “

I spun this last night and forgot to post.
Anyway, I love this prompt. Many ways to approach it. I went with this one because whenever I need to grab something without much thought; instrumental and funky usually work well. Last night we were cooking together and it was an easy call to grab this for all the chopping
and saute-ing and mincing and stirring.

Day 1 Black History Month - Play something by a Black artist, something that has influenced your listening over the years.

One Alone - William DuVall

Alice In Chains is a favorite band, I got to see them both times with William helping on vocals. When he announced his solo album I had to jump on it. I love this album so much it’s like he’s here performing. I also ADORE Black Gives Way To Blue.

Day 5 - National Weatherperson's Day - Play something that reminds you of some kind of weather

Yo La Tengo "Summer Sun"
Somehow from song to song Yo La Tengo find a way to remind me of all different sorts of weather I would always have thought it would be more gloomy days than sunny ones but I'm always surprised how much I reach for their music in the summer!
