This is so lovely and cute!
Glad it got there! Seems like a lot of the others I sent out are stuck in NJ haha
Hopefully now that the holidays are over the PO can catch up. I saw small U-Haul vans make deliveries in my area.Glad it got there! Seems like a lot of the others I sent out are stuck in NJ haha
Orchestre Baobab - Bienvenue au Senegal
Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou - Gbeto Vivi / Gbeti Ma Djro / Ma Won Ye O / Adjro Mi / Ao Vero / Vive Les Deux Presidents / Ma Dou Nou Sou Mi O / Nou Tche Non Ve Ye Wou / Mi Gni Wan Nou Nonzo
Almost the best thing of coming back from Christmas these days is all the records waiting for me, and thanks to the crap post it was a bumper crop this year. Top of the shop is perhaps these two from Superfly from my two favourite African bands - a peculiar album by Orchestre Baobab that I didn't know existed until they listed (it doesn't list them on the cover at all, and there are other tracks like poems on the record - but it also includes one of their best songs). And nine Poly-Rythmo's (two replacements of poor sounding 7s while the rest are new) lifting me way over 200 of their releases. Happy days.

Kamasi Washington - Becoming
EABS - Discipline of Sun Ra
Joel Ross - Who Are You?
Dezron Douglas & Brandee Younger - Force Majeure
A fabulous bunch of jazz releases too - including one (Force Majeure) that's definitely in my top 10 for 2020, plus one that could well be (the EABS), and new releases I'm keen to check out from Kamasi and Joel Ross.

Sturgill Simpson - The Butcher Shoppe Sessions Vol 1
Hallelujah Chicken Run Band - Take One
Prince - Sign O' The Times
Happy Times - Songs of Dan Penn & Spooner Oldham Vol 2
My first Sturgill, one of the reissues I've waited for longest on vinyl from one of the best bands ever out of Zimbabwe, my wonderful Secret Santa gift, and the second volume of songs written by my favourite soul song-writers, Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham.

I don't have this particular release but have the Tim Maia one from the same series and it's good. I'm definitely not an OG snob - I buy them as that's the only way to get most of the music. Invariably, modern reissues are likely to sound better as most OGs are crackly. I don't know all the tracks on here but those I do are great - Poly-Rythmo, of course, but also Sory Bamba, Number One, Orchestre Regional de Kayes. Not sure that's much help, I'm afraid.I figured you might be the one to ask about this... "World Psychedelic Classics 3”... This one:

Thoughts? It appears it was last mastered in 07 for Stones Throw. From what I hear on streaming it sounds decent quality. I know you're generally OG pressings but I thought you might have an opinion either way.
Haha I definitely didn't mean to infer you were an OG snob, just simply that I suspected you would be more likely to have the individual releases of most of these tracks rather than a comp. But that's good info about the Maia as I'm sure they're likely the same mastering. It's a Pallas press so I'm going to give it a shot.I don't have this particular release but have the Tim Maia one from the same series and it's good. The Fela Soul is fantastic. I have a few of the Amerigo Gazaway releases and they are just so much fun!Going on a vinyl diet in the new year to save up for a house, so went out for one last binge at a couple of locals (also emptied out my discogs cart - half deleted, half purchased , but those will be posted in the next few weeks as they arrive):

Been looking to pick up the Brand Nubian reissue and finally pulled the trigger as my local had it cheaper than most places. The Busta is an OG in minty condition - Busta had some fire in the late 90s. Also grabbed a few bargain bin 12" singles.

My local also usually has Colemine releases for a little cheaper than anywhere online, even before shipping, so I usually keep an eye out for newer releases like the Ghost Funk Orchestra. I didn't know that Futuristica's vinyl distributor was here in Chicago, so I was pleasantly surprised when searching for that Deborah Jordan release to find that I could pick it up at their store/warehouse. Ended up grabbing the Georgie Sweet, also. And they also had the Fela Soul.

A few more preorders came in the mail, too. The Cocaine Cowboys finally arrived from Air Vinyls from the summer. I've had the Kool And The Gang on my want list for over a decade, but it's too damn expensive, so I'm glad it's finally been reissued.
Still have a bunch of preorders that should be coming in over the next few months (and also my discogs binge pickups should come in over the next couple of weeks), and I've already paid for a VMP subscription through the summer, so I'll still have stuff to post. Otherwise, I'll be limiting any more new purchases going forward.
I've seen it posted around before, but had never heard of Amerigo Gazaway until this past weekend when a friend brought him up. Checked out his music and dug it. Then I randomly found a local store that I had never known existed in all the years that I've lived here, and they just happened to have a new press of the Fela Soul available. Had to snatch it up (and grab one for my friend too). The Fela Soul is fantastic. I have a few of the Amerigo Gazaway releases and they are just so much fun!
I think they are bootlegs for just that reason, I cant see him getting the sample clearance. Just looking at my shelf and I have Bizarre Tribe: A Quest To The Pharcyde (which is fantastic!), Yasiin Gaye: The Departure, A Common Wonder, and B.B. & The Underground Kingz - The Trill Is Gone (which I remember my local having as a RSD release but it must have been an unoffical one)I've seen it posted around before, but had never heard of Amerigo Gazaway until this past weekend when a friend brought him up. I'm guessing all his stuff on vinyl are bootleg/unofficial copies, yes? Can't imagine the sample clearance issues with any one of them.
I've seen the Yasiin Gaye posted before too. I'll have to check out that BBxUGK as I love UGK.I think they are bootlegs for just that reason, I cant see him getting the sample clearance.
