Fresh Grabs

RSDBF Goodies, I think the final score for me, without my better half’s Weird Al and Munsters

Lera Lynn - Live at Vinyl Tap (Year of the Black Hole Sun cover)
Jaaon Isbell - Georgia Blue (well worth it)
Joan Jett- I Love Rock and Roll / Bad Reputation (overpriced but really cool comics that make a great pair)
Spoon - Wild (it was out early it seems - the song and remix are both really nice if you see it in a few weeks…)

Horace Parlan Quintet - Speakin' My Piece (Blue note, 1960 First Mono Pressing)
McCoy Tyner Trio - Inception (Impulse!, 1962 First Stereo Pressing)

I will start with the 2 US jazz albums. The Horace Parlan was a complete fluke that I stumbled across and it wasn't until I checked on discogs that I realised how tricky it was to find, so I'm super happy with it. Its not the cleanest of records but still great with some incredible playing. The McCoy Tyner is one that I was looking out for and I'm glad I came across this. It arrived with a bit of a warp unfortunately but a record weight 'fixes' this. I emailed the seller to let him know and he unexpectedly and very kindly gave me a full refund and said to keep the record on him.

The New Jazz Orchestra - Western Reunion London 1965 (Decca, 1965 First Pressing)
London Jazz Quartet - S/T (Ember Records, 1960 First Pressing)

Here come the 2 British big ones. I managed to find a copy of the second New Jazz Orchestra a couple of weeks ago and miraculously found this copy of their debut this week. It's incredible and often gets cited as a defining moment in British jazz. The London Jazz Quartet features Tubby Hayes and is certainly an interesting release. It was recorded by Tony Hall for the UK Tempo records label but it was also released on Ember in the UK at the exact same time, presumably to be sold internationally.

Wayne Shorter - The All Seeing Eye (Blue Note, 2021 Tone Poet Pressing)
Freddie King - My Feeling For The Blues (Cotillion, 2021 Vinyl Me Please Classics Pressing)
Graham Collier Music - Jazz Lecture Concert (Resources Of Music, 1975 First Pressing)
The Richard Hewson Orchestra - Love Is - Sundance (Splash Records, 1975 First Pressing)

A nice affordable Tone Poet I have had my eye on, with the VMP Classics turning up at the same time. The 2 British jazz records are obscurities which I came across. The Graham Collier is part of the music that he recorded for a lecture series, whilst the Richard Hewson Orchestra is a jazz/funk album that features the likes of Don Rendell.

Oingo Boingo - Nothing to Fear

Yep, still the one I like the most. Except: there's a scratch through “Reptiles and Samurai” caused by an errant bit of flashing, but whatever because it's the only Oingo Boingo track I don't really care for, maybe because it hits too close to home. Sounds perplexingly excellent to, like the other two Rubellan Oingo Boingo presses.

Little Simz - Sometimes I Might be Introvert

I know I've said that I have trouble turning this forum into recommendations, but when everyone gets an album it's always worth checking out - Eddie Gale, Lucy Dacus, even The Books - and this is no exception. Thanks everyone! Sounds good too, didn't know there was a pressing plant in Poland.

The Beatles + Esher Demos

So this was going to happen. One popped up on Discogs for $60 and I didn't resist. Probably could've found one at WalMart for $50 and not've had to pay shipping, but could I be bothered? Nah. I find the mix kinda weird, like listening to them make the White Album by listening to it rather than just listening to it. Sounds incredible though, I expect this will become my player White Album. The Demos are nice as well, as everyone said. Pressing's good for the most part, except for no-fill issues on Side 3 of the Demos. Also, didn't realize I had an extra George glossy until I was setting these photos up, I guess poke me if anyone's missing theirs.

Radiohead - KID A MNESIA

There's been enough waffling about this on the forum, but I still haven't gotten around to completely listening to it. Sorry, I'll do that and an A/B ASAP. In the meantime if the only issue is Kid A being off-center I'll probably keep it, as it may be ugly but I can fix that.

SWANS - Soundtracks for the Blind

This got pushed back like a month and a half, one week at a time. Kinda excruciating, but that's not really surprisng and the same happened with Children of God earlier this year. Nice to have it. and with this the only modern SWANS press I'm missing is My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope. Although apparrently Gira's getting ready to do his next fundraising album so NEW SWANS COMING UP. “Helpless Child” apparrently doesn't like being tracked but comes with the territory.

Adele - 30

I wasn't really paying attention but a friend of mine came over with the one he'd preordered the day it was released and it's good. Probably coulda waited a bit and gotten it from a dollar bin but I kinda got it for my parents as well. And it may well be that she took up a lot of press time that coulda been used by smaller artists, but I like the album and I don't think the backup's entirely her fault and either way they've already pressed 500,000.

Uh, I was actually just getting finished listening to Soundtracks for the Blind as I was typing this and Side 7 has a REALLY WEIRD defect that makes it sound like there's static in the left channel that follows the dynamica of the music. Probably going to have to requeat a replacement. It happens on multiple turntables so...
