Gadzooks! Its the December Vinyl Spin Challenge Thread!

12/12 – Santa and The Ice Cream Bunny: This MST3K / Rifftrax favorite is listed in Wikipedia as follows: “Atrocious acting, cheap production values and a meandering long running time have earned a fan following as one of the worst Christmas movies ever made”. Play something that would likely be made better with some strong egg nog, or something that helps you go to sleep.

Moon Duo – Live At Levitation

Mmmmmm... Nog n' FUZZ!

12/13 - Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special: Mariah is everywhere in the Christmas season. Spin something you feel like was everywhere at one point.

Adele – 30

It's still everywhere, they pressed so damn many!
I don't have this yet. I just looked on Discogs and there are bunch at $100-$120. That's a good price for this, right? I should probably buy a few for investment purposes.

12/14 – A Christmas Story: Ralphie’s mom was so offended by the Leg Lamp / Major Award and what the neighbors would think that she ‘accidentally’ broke it. Play a record you suspect that your friends / family would ‘accidentally’ break, given the chance.

I'm surrounded by very musically tolerant people. Frank can get out there sometimes though.

The Mothers Of Invention - Freak Out!

Sun Ra & His Intergalactic Research Arkestra – Paradiso Amsterdam 1970

I don't imagine for a million years my wife would actually 'accidentally' break any of my records but she certainly wouldn't be disappointed if Sun Ra vacated the premises. Especially late 60s to late 70s Sun Ra!

Daft Punk "Random Access Memories" (2013 Columbia; 2023 10th anniversary reissue)
This was everywhere back in 2013. No complaints from me though, because this was one of the few times (if not the only time ever) that my tastes and popular opinion seemed to coincide. This pressing is so good too.

Fela Kuti & The Africa 70 "Roforofo Fight" (1972 Jofabro; 2022 50th anniversary reissue)
My tastes coincide well with one of my local buddies, but one of his weaknesses is his dislike for classic afrobeat sounds. Something about seeing Fela's son perform live at the Montreal Jazz fest one year. Maybe I shouldn't leave him alone with my Fela records? He's a good guy, so I'm sure it would all be ok, but you get the sentiment...

12/15 - My Little Pony – Hearth’s Warming Eve: This holiday episode focuses on the history of Equestria, and to quote @duke86fan is about “people not being assholes to one another and racial equality”. Play something designed to bring people together, or something about horses.

Unlike Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie, the horse in question here has no name. And the fact that this album also includes a song about Muskrat Love is just a bonus.

America ~ History - America's Greatest Hits

12/9 – Bing Crosby’s Merrie Olde Christmas: Best known for the Bing Crosby / David Bowie duet of Peace On Earth / Little Drummer Boy. Play something that bridges generations.

Air - Moon Safari

First off, thanks to @Hemotep for the great PIF!

I may be doing that thing where I'm behind, so I'm going to find ways to count whatever I'm listening as matching the prompt in order to catch up... but, I remember when this came out a lot of reviewers called it "baby-making music," and now that it's been twenty years, there may be a whole new generation of Air babies... 🤷‍♂️

My wife would gladly break the Zappa. I mean, she understands he was a genius, the music is just not for her.

I've purposely been avoiding playing Zappa while my wife's around just to avoid giving her more of my collection to hate! :ROFLMAO:

A good excuse to play this comp I recently purchased. There is power in a Union and the internationale are clearly meant to bring people together

Orville Peck "Pony" (2019 Sub Pop)
I'm going to follow @Wicked Dreamer on this one. I think all of the ponies will like this one, which even features an ode to Applejack, "Queen Of The Rodeo".

12/16 – It’s A Wonderful Life: This holiday favorite has an angel sent from heaven to show George Bailey how much he’s meant to others. Play something with bells or chimes, to help an angel get its wings.

Santana "Moonflower" (1977 CBS/Sony Japan)
How about cowbell? As in more of it? There's some here and there, throughout this album. Also, I'm going to pretend that gif is of Santana.
