Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

Less jokes and more seriousness, though, I feel similarly about Thundercat.

Everything points to the fact that I should absolutely love him, but I just haven't been able to get into any of his albums.
yeah its legit a fairly notable issue where its like "the artist has a lot of stuff i really really like and i know everyone loves them so this should be an easy 10"

but then i just.... don't get it..

similar artists that give me this effect are fishmans, Arca except maybe self titled (i haven't listened to the kick series yet), ride, William basinski, and pink floyd

CRJ's Dedicated didn't get the love it deserved back when it came out. And I'm including myself in that. I've been sleeping on this album, it's such an infectious, well-crafted and even kind of risky pop album.

Lots of reminders lately how grossly overrated Spoon are. Talk about regurgitated posture rock. Can they even originate?
A law school classmate of mine was a musician from Austin. He knew them before they moved to Chicago, considered them ripoff artists and did not like them back in '01.

I, on the other hand, think they do what they do very well, and like their music very much.

I think Spoon are a great band with a lot of really great albums but this one I am really scratching my head on why anyone would say it's better than pretty much anything else they have done.

Spoon is a top five band for me, and I'm waiting for my vinyl copy before I give it a listen, but I'm definitely curious. A lot of reviews have said it's their best album to date.

I listened to most of it on the way to work and all I can think is that those people must not like Spoon for the same reasons I do. I'll give it another shot though. Maybe was just in the wrong headspace. Not saying it was bad or anything, just nothing grabbing me.

I love multiple Spoon albums, and I am meh about a few of them too. I listened this morning to the new one and it's not bad but it didn't strike me as a standout either. I'll give it another listen through, but as of now I'm feeling good about my decision to wait to order this on vinyl until I could stream it.

Their first albums is heavily indebted to The Pixies but you could say that about a lot of rock bands. I think they have certainly grown and established their own path. Even when they were emulating The Pixies they still wrote some great tunes. Spoon have still never made a bad record.
