Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

Agreed, and I think there's value in engaging these hot takes to a certain extent, especially if they would get to the point of piling on. But notice that there is an upper echelon of bands that tend to take the beating the most because folks don't understand their appeal so much that they feel they have to be vocal about it. RHCP, DMB, Foos are the three most recent to come up (also worth noting that none of what's been said about these bands is really considered a Hot Take). Maybe because some feel there is artistic merit there but can't allow themselves to promote them to a level of a Pearl Jam (now this is a band that should have floods of hot takes).

Then you have Imagine Dragons and Nickelback that have been the house door mat for a while mostly because no one thinks there is any artistic merit there. So a new album announcement by them would not have people booking it to the hot takes thread to share their opinions.

I'm coming from a place where I was a big DMB fan, then I let other people's ideas of DMB ruin my enjoyment of them, only to come back to them after a long period of time. I call this, "The Pitchfork Stage" of life.
Lol, when you listed those three bands, I immediately thought "and Pearl Jam, don't forget Pearl Jam."

Also AC's Merriwether Post Pavilion was one on the most critically acclaimed albums of the past 20 years.
I really loved everything they did before this album and I liked this one, but I saw them on this tour and they had zero bass. I mean absolutely no bass coming out at all. It was so uncomfortable to be in an over crowded room of sweaty white people trying to dance with no bass. If it was an intentional troll it was brilliant, but the tickets were expensive and I've held a grudge since.

100%. I would say some time in the early-to-mid 00’s it was fashionable to take shots at Pearl Jam. It was probably the Creed effect. Creed got popular and Pearl Jam, while still releasing music, didn’t land any big radio hits. Casual music fans felt there was a similar sound and figured if PJ wasn’t charting hits then there was a reason.

Then one day everyone decided PJ was this untouchable entity. Maybe because they made some good moves by staying below the radar but still releasing new music. Kind of the opposite of Foo Fighters.

I’m talking out of my ass now someone come make sense of all this.

Those are later takes. I've been unimpressed by Pearl Jam from the start. When Nirvana hit, PJ struck me as a boring, safe, pub rock version of grunge. And Eddie's caterwauling? No thanks.

It's not all bad though, Better Man is a pretty song.

The Foo Fighters have been ripping themselves off for the past 20 years. Every song in recent memory has the same format of Dave Grohl sings quiet, DAVE GROHL SCREAMS LOUD, drum solo, SCREAMS LOUD AGAIN, final chord fades away.

I’m going to have to take yer word on that because it’s probably been at least 20 years since I last listened to them.

Breaking News: I just checked and The Colour and The Shape is the last album I’ve listened to.
