Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

I finished the last three last night and honestly I though the conflicts between the characters were much more interesting than the previous ones.

I truly don’t understand the disdain all of the OG Star Wars nerds have for episodes 7-9. I was born in ‘70, so I grew up with the original three, despised episode 1, found episode 2 a snooze, thought 3 was okay. Yeah episodes 7-9 brought back A LOT of the same ideas from the first three, but they are entertaining AF with great effects. I LOVE all of the newer ones (well, Rise of Skywalker was just alright), and return to them often.

My ranking of the nine episodes:
1. Empire
2. New Hope
3. Last Jedi
4. Force Awakens
5. Return Of the Jedi
6. Rise of Skywalker
7. Return of the Sith
8. Attack of the Clones
9. Phantom Menace

i think that significant distaste for the modern movies is specific to those who grew up around the time the prequels were coming out so they never got to see how infamously bad they were for when they first came out.. they just knew they were supposed to hate the prequels and never saw the real reasons for the outrage.. so this was their first time really having an initial shocked reaction

the other major reason is probably the obvious sexism a lot of them had about the main characters being a woman and a black man (4chan/gamergate style assholes really used that and the sudden surprises of episode 9 for their "gateway red pill".. any reviewer who calls episode 8 "objectively the worst movie" is probably one of those).

honestly, this kind of discourse is exactly what stops me from watching ANY star wars despite it being up my alley

also spaceballs is a one of the best comedies ever and my favorite mel brooks film (yes I've seen blazing saddles, yes that's a great film too)

Spaceballs is SO GOOD! My favorite Brooks film however is either Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein, but Spaceballs is right up there

Maybe I’m missing some inside joke, but naming this album like this seemed like a weird move.
From wikipedia:
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Wilco lead singer Jeff Tweedy explained the cover art and album title.[19]

It's kind of an extension of the thought process behind, I don't know, staying in touch with some sort of wild energy as much as possible and some sort of an irreverence. But that painting of that cat hangs in the kitchen at the [Wilco] loft, and every day I'd look at it and go, "You know, that should just be the album cover." Then I started thinking about the phrase "Star Wars" recontextualized against that painting — it was beautiful and jarring. The album has nothing to do with Star Wars. It just makes me feel good. It makes me feel limitless and like there's still possibilities and still surprise in the world, you know?

Rise of Skywalker is the worst film I have ever seen. By a distance. I have no idea why any of the decision they made in that film were made based on the previous film. It had no plot. It had no jeapordy to the point that on several ocadsions it killed off major characters and then went “gotcha! Still alive”. I found 7 a fun nostalgia trip and 8 to be really good but 9, pure cinematic excrement. I’ll die on the hill of undead emperor being the single worst thing to happen in a film.

They could have at least used the Dark Force Rising explanation for his survival and had a clone planet that was remote from everywhere else whose sole purpose was generating new bodies for the emperor because his dark force wielding aged bodies so quickly that he constantly needed a new host. This was a clever enough way to bring back the emperor.
