Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

They could have at least used the Dark Force Rising explanation for his survival and had a clone planet that was remote from everywhere else whose sole purpose was generating new bodies for the emperor because his dark force wielding aged bodies so quickly that he constantly needed a new host. This was a clever enough way to bring back the emperor.

I’m not sure what that is but regardless I’d contend that it didn’t need him at all. Any explanation for a man thrown into a generator in a space station that got blown up being alive is so utterly ridiculous.

Rey was capable of being his granddaughter and having a family redemptive arc without all of that nonsense

And that’s not to mention the nonsense of everybody being seemingly capable of resurrection right until the very end. That film is just beyond any explanation or possible redemption for me.

It was comic.. the idea was that the Emperor captured and corrupted Luke to the Dark Side, but Luke was able to overcome it thus fulfilling the prophecy of the one who brings balance. It was a cool comic back in the nineties.

Ah cool! I kinda never delved outside the film/tv series and for all my vices and collections I was never really a comic book guy lol!

Comics were my vice immediately preceding my second vinyl obsession (the culmination of all my music vices over the years). In fact before I landed my current job, I managed a comic book store here in Durham which has grown to be one of the biggest in the state.

Yes I remember you telling me before that your previous career had been running a comic store!

For me I liked this aspect. Kind of depersonalized conflicts to reflect that creation and destruction are constant forces that we will always have to deal with regardless of who or what is representing them in our time.

Hot Take: it's okay to not like things.

context: commented on something in a Mountain Goats Facebook group saying I don't really care for Heretic Price or We Shall All Be Healed as much as their other albums and got unnecessarily dragged. Idk if it's groupthink or just wanting to appease everyone by never slandering a thing that everyone else seems to like but it irked me.

Why do people think everything they like has to be liked by everyone else? I’m completely ok with people thinking two thirds of my record collection is weird useless music.

Right? Like, especially with a discography as large as tMG there's going to be a lot of variance in favorites. Those two aren't even bad, just not my favorites.

Semi-related as well I was talking online about soccer commentary with someone and complained that a certain person's analysis was always poor. They disagreed and said "I wouldn't be so final with opinions" like wtf???

I think it's okay to not like things and write things off. There's not enough time to try and like everything that's out there. Cut the fat, keep the good stuff.

People should have opinions and others should not be offended by them unless the opinions actually cause people harm. We can all disagree without hating on each other.

For me, if I share music that really moves me with someone I'm close to/care about and they don't enjoy it, I take it a bit personal. Like, "this music is part of me so you don't actually understand me!"

I totally get that. My comment was just something like "Am I the only one that doesn't care for [those two albums that much]?" But my guess is that people can't wrap their head around how someone else doesn't feel the same way.

Yea sharing music with others is like sharing a part of yourself. It’s hard not to feel rejected when they don’t like it. I went to a lot of concerts on my own in my 20’s because no one like the music I liked. I got over it. It’s part of why I’m so generous with other people’s ideas of what they like and don’t like.
