Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

Yes. It is adjacent to Qdoba where I live.

Above all, this is the important point. I would much rather seek out these types of spots (or family-owned) if I can help it.

Over half of my tierlist was on memory, with much of it being establishments I haven't visited in years.

I haven't experienced. I do know that at least one location is set to open two miles away from where I live. Not thrilled about the traffic this will create.

Some people love it - some don't.
But when it opens you should give it a whirl.

My recommendation: 2x2; Well Done Animal Fries and an Arnold Palmer.

It's because there are zero options for lots of Americans in some places other than those chain restaurants. It's easier for a corporation to open a location than an individual to raise the capital needed to do so themselves. Also people in the US love chain restaurants, they do. I don't like them but have eaten at them. I also prefer to get food at local places if I can. the best thing about living in Vermont is the lack of fast food options everywhere and more local places to eat. Customers here also enjoy supporting local and make an effor to support local places over chain restaurants. Other states don't have that same culture of supporting local as much from what I've seen. Not to say that there are not good local food options everywhere it's just more common to find fast food prevalent in most places.

I mean they’re your chains, that’s fine. I’m more asking why you’re inflicting them on us 😂

Also, randomly moved the conversation to a different thread…
woah I don't think I did that LOL!

But it's also because the UK has been receptive to those chains and it has grown because of that. I'm sure if Maccies wasn't successful early on they wouldn't have expanded.

I don’t live in the UK 😒

But equally they’re cheap. That’s the key to their success. They’re really fucking cheap. Cheaper than the better or healthier opposition. They undercut the competition by a distance and drove them out of business in a similar way to what supermarkets were doing to grocers/butchers etc at the same time.

British (and Irish) food also underwent a confidence crisis post WWII for loads of reasons. It really took the wave of French chefs coming over in the 60s and 70s and bringing technique and seasonality back to the national dialogue for there then to be new generations of chefs who began to use those ideas on local cuisine. It’s only really been since the turn of the millennium that local dishes have been celebrated with high level cuisine.

They’re all F. They’re all shit. I’ll eat most drunk but I have one question to America?

Why? Why did you have to bring this shit over here? Why? Economic colonialism is the worst!

Pretty much down to pizza from the local Italian, curry from the local Indian and fish n chips as my take out!

Agree with @TenderLovingKiller® (we agree on something!!!!) that pho from a really good Vietnamese place is the best but it doesn’t feel like a take away becuade it’s good food, relatively healthy and is more something I’d pick up in town during the week for lunch than as a kinda treat takeaway.

@Joe Mac: it was a trade offer that some how you rejected.

We thought we were getting Papa's or at least a Leo Burdock and a JD Witherspoons in return.
I could murder a Big Papa with Brown Sauce or a Mangalorean Roasted Cauliflower & Spinach curry.

But you failed to come through on your side of the deal.

Man you can have Weatherspoons. I’ll happily pay to ship that brexit supporting xenophobic nasty little man and his atmosphereless pubs selling shit beer to you!

Leo’s do nice chips because they’re of of the very last places left that still deep fry in beef dripping but they disappointingly use pre battered frozen fish which just always tastes disappointing.

I’m not sure what Papa’s is?

Yep, I really like a little place called Pizza Platoon here. They have gf crust and cauliflower gf crust and are really serious about not letting anything contaminate anything else. The owner suffers from food allergies and is awesome about keeping everything uncontaminated.

If I am by my parents house it’s Fat Boys pizza for the gluten free win.

I have tried Dominoes gf, and I was okay one time but the second time, the pizza definitely was contaminated and it made me sick.
Same here with Pizza. The Pac NW has deficit (when compared with the Northeastern and Midwest) when it come to quality Italian pizza parlor type places. We have a few but for some reason, for pizza to be considered good out here it has to be wood fired and have like artichoke hearts and arugula on it. I am not saying this types of pies are bad, but they are not what I crave when I want pizza.

Also, I enjoy New York style but for me, my favorite pizza sub category or is St. Louis/Tavern Style. It’s pizza on a crispy cracker like dough. It was popular back in Central IL. Most bars would buy these frozen pizzas from a place called Butches Pizza and have a little table top pizza oven where you would order one and they would cut it in a grid so it was easier to share/snack on.

Out here, we found one place, The Cloverleaf that comes pretty close to that. They cut theirs like a traditional pizza but other than that it’s usually nice and crispy.

Something about Little Caeser's always reminded me of the school cafeteria pizza from middle school.
Dude, we used to have these octagonal shaped Mexican pizza things in IL public school hot lunch. They were called Fiestadas and they were AMAZING. Mainly some ground beef and. Cheese with Mexican spices. Sadly, I have never founds a Mexican style pizza outside the school that is really comparable.

I can still taste these and haven't had anything like them since. They were so good.

Wanna go halvsies on a case?

I have no need for these, but the fact that these are still around is cool.
You’d eat one if you could though. About makes me wanna become a lunch lady for a week just so I could get some of my faves. Though TBH, that list would not be super long. Chicken nuggets with Mashed Potatoes was good, Johnny Rib (a McRib concoction, where the super processed meat is pressed into the shape of a mini rack of ribs) on bun. A tenderloin sandwich loaded up with pickles and mustard. Hell, I would even go for the less appealing standard rectangular sausage pizza. They could pay me in Fiestada’s.

The lunch ladies in Mississippi used to make these yeast rolls that were absolute heaven. The closest I ever came to finding anything that tasted like it is the rolls that Chick-Fil-a uses for their chicken minis at breakfast. Fried catfish day was also the bomb.

Beans on toast is like a quick cheap lunch you make yourself when you’ve 15 minutes spare. It’s not something you’d buy from a takeaway.

Plus not ragging on American cuisine in general. I’m sure most of it is great in proper small places serving their regional cuisine and produce over there but face it, these shitty chains weren’t a gift to the world.
Wait, I thought Chick-Fil-A was God's gift to the world.
