Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

I’m pretty sure every venue in Dublin is Ticketmaster. I don’t think I’ve been to any gigs since I moved here that weren’t. It’s shit.
Yeah, there are lots of venues here that don't from small independent spots to like the art museum in Raleigh which is a nice sized ampitheater. Lots of etix and a few other online ticketing possibilities. I think, not real sure, the venue I am talking about above might do direct box office sales, but there hasn't been anything there that made me want to check. It's also slightly bigger than I like and I haven't gotten up the courage to go to an indoor show yet.

Yeah I’ve been from Whelans which is 200 up to Croke which 80,000 and all the venues in between and they all were Ticketmaster. I think MCD as a local promoter has almost a monopoly on the Dublin circuit above pubs and they sell through Ticketmaster.

ugh. I mean it's real close here, unfortunately, as well. Doesn't help that the largest promotor is also actually ticketmaster and owns a large percentage of venues... It's a fucked system here.

The two assholes next to me at Nickel Creek a couple of weeks ago. The fucker who shoved his way so he and his girl could stand directly in front of me at the Turkuaz show I went to right before the pandemic. THE ENTIRE FUCKING AUDIENCE AT THE ONE CHATHAM COUNTY LINE SHOW I WENT TO.
How tall are you tho? How tall was she? @nolalady opened my eyes to what concert crowds look like to short people.

Every time I get a nice view some bloody lighthouse decides to stand directly in front of me…

Tall people’s ignorance of how they affect shorter people from gigs to public transport is just so damn infuriating.

Just PSA for tall people.

It is absolutely not acceptable and bang out of order to lean over me to hold a pole above my head on public transport. Above my head is sill personal space and no one deserves to spend 30 minutes with their head in someone else’s armpit!

When we are at a show I like to set my chin on my SO’s shoulder just go get an idea of what it’s like for her. It’s a different world down there.
It sucks being a 5' 1 1/2" person who loves GA. Thus the reason I queue for The National.

Even when I have second row reserved seats, it never fails that someone who is 7 feet tall gets the seat in front of me.

Dude was taller than me, and it had more to do with the basically standing on top of me like i didn't exist. I don't remember how tall she was and "an excuse me do you mind if we stand here" or something/anything would have been better walking directly in front of me and then pushing me back. In my younger days... dude would have gotten something cracked over his head.

They were also obnoxious and decided that they needed to talk to me about how awesome Turkuaz was all night. I went to see Neal Francis open and had a nice spot during that set and didn't feel that I should have to give it up to some fuckwit. I try damn hard to be courteous during shows.

Yeah, I did that but also noticed when she held up her phone overhead for photos the picture being captured was still lower and more obscured than what I see at eye level. I also suddenly saw a whole new crowd dynamic where pockets of shorter people basically created sectors of visibility. Also I saw tall people just trash those sectors over and over.

I can't figure a way to say this with all of what I want to say right now, but also I want to be there in the moment for a show. God Love @Yer Ol' Uncle D and I get what he is doing and where he is at with taping, but I'm there, I want to be there and in the moment. The fucker talking next to me, the fucker with his camera in my face in front of me, my own phone, all that distracts from what I am there for... Kind of why I closed my facebook and twitter account anyhow.
The big difference in us old guard tapers and what happens today is 99% of the time, unless you know what you're looking for, you'll never even notice us. The first rule of taping is you don't encroach on anyone's enjoyment of the show. My mics are usually set up onstage and/or near the soundboard. If it's an open taping band and I'm recording from my seat, I keep the mic stand at head heighth. If I'm running video (not very often anymore, it's a lotta work cause I like to do all the zooms and pans) I'm set up over to one side or have the camera clamped to my mic stand. Once you tape in a room a time or two, you get a feel for the sweet spots and all you really have to do is set up, get the record levels right, lock 'em in and remember to take the deck out of record/pause when the show starts. Then I'll mill around as usual and dig the show.
