Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

The three albums he worked on with them are incredibly good in my opinion. Worth checking out, but I don't know if you'd like them or not. They seem to be a love it or hate it kind of band.

They’re one of those bands I’ve meant to check out so many times but someone else has kept catching my eye more. I’ll give it a go. If not I’ll have a rare exception to my Eno fun wrecker rule...

What's the Seinfeld effect?

Like when someone about 20 or under tries Seinfield for the first time and their reaction is like "What's the big deal? This is so dated, every show from the 90s was like this wasn't it?". Without realizing that Seinfield was very innovative, and the reason it feels dated is because it set the standard and everyone else copied/adapted it.

I just find the more popular Nirvana stuff very trite, I guess because I grew up hearing popular Nirvana songs over and over again without understanding why people thought they were good.

Since I grew up in the 90s I am definitely biased but I will be shouting "Seinfeld holds up!" at the clouds well into my old age. 😆

I've only given one decent attempt at getting through it, and felt the first 3 or so seasons do not hold up well. I get the impression that it improved a lot by the end, but I didn't really care enough to stick around and find out. I could see myself trying to continue at some point though, I wouldn't say it was terrible or anything.

We need a shoegaze revival. That’s it.
There is a good group of modern Dream Pop bands but straight forward Shoegaze is lacking. Don’t get me wrong I can name a bunch of modern Shoegaze bands but ones who’ve made it and have become semi-popular in this decade are few and far between. The only pure Shoegaze bands I can think of who are popular today are from the old wave (MBV, Ride, Slowdive).

I don't like 98.12.28 by fishmans that much

The big finale song is way too long (the original long season was fine of in one ear out the other) and for a supposed live album it felt like it could have just been a bunch of studio stuff, not even much applause.

But then again I really only like maybe 2 fishmans albums depending on my mood on long season

On the topic of Billie Eilish - I think she's a perfectly fine musician whose most recent album was pretty good. A *lot* of the hate she gets is extremely unfair, and just reeks of "Look at how cool I am for hating on the new popular female pop artist that teenagers like" with a dash of sexism. Obviously this isn't everyone who just dislikes her music, that's totally fine, but people who actively hate on her are ridiculous. Plus, anyone who buys into the whole "industry plant" conspiracy is just mindlessly parroting what others say without realizing how absurd it is
I am giving you a standing ovation from my bedroom at 7:07am. It's awkward for the neighbors because I'm clapping so loud. But Bob. is into it.
