Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

I have heard so many hot takes over the years that (insert a band fronted by a woman or a all women band) are not good. I agree with @Teeeee, it’s lazy and it’s the same old tired thing that gets repeated over and over that will probably not stop during my lifetime.

Because you don’t like it, understand it or whatever, doesn’t mean they aren’t good. It’s just not for you, so when you see people lamenting over a band they love, you don’t gotta run over here and make those hilarious posts.

But please, let me know who your favorite bands are so I can post a hot take immediately and trust me, I got a lot of them.

She started out in the country genre. Which is about as accepting of the LGBTQ community as hip hop has been. So, yeah, maybe she's late to the party. But, so are soooooo many others. I'm not sure why that eliminates her from allyship and not others.

Also, I'm not entirely convinced she is straight. I think we are witnessing her working out her ish.

It's a journey with highs and lows and mistakes and the opposite of mistakes.
It's not so much she was in the country genre as she had a line in a song implying that she was going to tell people her ex was gay insinuating there would be negative consequences from doing so.
That being said I don't think it disqualifies her ally-ship. It's just a personal beef I have.
I grew up in an area with a KKK chapter.(We're talking that level of backwards)
There were a ton of redneck kids (granted there were also plenty of tolerant kids, like I said) but still the rednecks would verbally and physically bully gay kids and kids that didn't meet their bullshit standard of masculinity so must be gay. The song came out when I was in middle school when I was really wrestling and coming to terms with my sexuality. I lived in constant fear of being outed. That song cemented my fears that being outed in the South would carry very harsh consequences. That's why I personally dislike her. Everytime I see her I'm reminded of that line and of the most frightening time of my life. You can support her pro LGBTQ efforts all you want. Anyone can, and receive no judgement from me, but I just can't.

On the other hand, I'm LGBTQ and welcome her contributions, sticking up for us, political statements and the like. My nieces love her and I am very very comfortable with them idolizing her.

*shrug*

Personally her recent support has felt super panderingy to me, like shes now only doing it because it's the popular thing to do. But she does have an impressionable young audience so I appreciate that

I do have many other problems with her. Some that have been stated above

Which lyric are you referencing? I'm not sure I've caught that. I want to look into it because outing someone is not cool.

Ugh, sounds like you had a bunch of a-holes growing up. I'm so sorry. We all have our opinions on music and still get along. But opinions on how each other should live and then physically harming someone because of it is not ok. You and I are in complete agreement on how we feel about that!!!

You should be able to back up your hot take, is all I'm saying. If you're going to come in here and put down an artist, you should have more to say for yourself than "lol iss bad"

I don’t know that liking or disliking a thing is necessarily always that deep. My biggest hot takes are generally things that have repulsed me immediately on first listen. I can’t necessarily explain that or back it up as such, I just know that for me it’s shite!

Also this thread is supposed to be fun...

I think the non existent mission statement for this thread should read "if you take anything you read in here seriously, you're doing it wrong".
