Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

I don’t know that liking or disliking a thing is necessarily always that deep. My biggest hot takes are generally things that have repulsed me immediately on first listen. I can’t necessarily explain that or back it up as such, I just know that for me it’s shite!

Also this thread is supposed to be fun...
and to back up the "fun" comment of @Joe Mac I refer here to the post #1 of this whole thread

Have a bold opinion about a band or album?
Want to confess something shocking about your musical proclivities? Drop 'em here!

I don't expect anybody to necessarily provide a reasoned argument about their bold and shocking opinions, at least in this thread.

for example, my hot take for today is that the new punk (pop punk) generation of the mid 90s (Green Day, Blink 182, Offspring and assorted bands) are utterly rubbish and more annoying than a teenager chewing gum.

That’s a hot take? I thought that was just common knowledge 😉

You're right . People don't have to defend or argue their hot take/bold opinion. However it's highly encouraged! The discussion surrounding these takes/opinions are often more interesting than just plainly stating the !

Probably not today, but I'm going to look into this. I agree, this is not ok. I'm wondering why this is the first I've heard of it? I am a pretty consistent fan of hers.

Please keep me honest, @Count_Vader!!!
I really don't know why she's gotten away with it. It seems to have faded into the past which is strange considering this was a hit single. Btw she also sued her Guitar Teacher for using her likeness and tried to Trademark "This Sick Beat" alot of her not so good behavior gets overlooked.

But you have to let me leave this thread. ;) <3

This thread has been really fun I'm glad the community is enjoying it. I haven't seen anything like this so far but just two quick things
1) Someone criticizing a musician you like is not a personal attack
2) If you are criticizing a Musician/Genre please do not insult the people that enjoy that music. That's not cool
Again, I haven't seen any of this behavior but as this thread grows I want those two rules to at least he understood. We're all crazy about music and can be very passionate about it and this thread should be a place for fun discussion and not mean spirited bashing.
If everyone agrees to these rules I'll put them on the first post!

I have heard so many hot takes over the years that (insert a band fronted by a woman or a all women band) are not good. I agree with @Teeeee, it’s lazy and it’s the same old tired thing that gets repeated over and over that will probably not stop during my lifetime.

Because you don’t like it, understand it or whatever, doesn’t mean they aren’t good. It’s just not for you, so when you see people lamenting over a band they love, you don’t gotta run over here and make those hilarious posts.

But please, let me know who your favorite bands are so I can post a hot take immediately and trust me, I got a lot of them.

Is this because I said I didn't understand Sleater Kinney? I never said they weren't talented or anything similar to that - just that I didn't understand. And that's fine, but I shared in this thread because it's how I feel, also I feel my opinion isn't popular so the 'Hot Take' thread felt like a good fit. Nothing to do with women.

My take on this Taylor Swift conversation is that there are definitely shades of gray here, as there are with supporting many artists. We all have to make our own decisions about what we are willing to put up with from the musical artists we support or enjoy. That line will be different for everyone. For instance, it was an easy decision not to support Ryan Adams anymore.
For me, that particular line gets a pass at this time. I'm not saying it isn't/wasn't harmful. It looks like that song was recorded in 2006 when Taylor was 16 years old and I feel that there is enough time that has passed that I can say this isn't necessarily how she feels about the issue. I don't think that sound is released if it was written in this day and age.
I definitely support @Count_Vader not supporting Taylor and @teeee supporting Taylor if you so choose.

Lol. Of course you're correct and this is good to say. BUT

Any criticism of anything that is different to what one thinks or does is considered a personal attack by almost everyone except the most mature, aware and emotionally sound among us... particularly online. The whole recent thing about VMP support and posts in various threads is an example.

We can't criticize things without those criticisms making people think the criticism reflects poorly on their own choices.

We all could be better about not taking other people's opinions and perspectives as a reflection on our own choices.

Everybody is wrong- all of the time

Stevie Wonder has pretty much rested on his creative laurels since the very early 80's. Like pre-'I Just Called To Say I Love You' 80's. I don't dispute the genius on display in the 60s and 70s, but, it has been a minute since that genius was documented on record.
If the hotness of a take is necessitated by how unpopular or controversial it is, I think this might be the iciest take in this entire thread :P

Really? I thought it was a hot take when I had it back in the 90s, but as the decades have passed, I feel like it becomes more of an observation. I hear he is still a good live act, but usually legends of the past that maybe hit a dry spell for a decade or so have that big late career creative resurgence. Think Cash, Dylan...hell even Brian Wilson. Stevie seems pretty content to make appearances at awards shows and collect lifetime achievement awards, which, by the way, I believe he started receiving in the 80s. No joke.
