Immerse Your Soul In Love - The Radiohead Thread

I'm unsurprised at the distortion. BAZZA has good taste but boy does he like to cut hot. I was hoping this would avoid it since the sides are so long, but no such luck, slightly comical though it is that it should be “How to Disappear.” Why, my Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space has tracking issues on every side.

That Ladies and Gentlemen... Fuck I went though 4 copies to find one that didn't distort across half the discs.

But you did find one? I'd certainly feel sheepish going to my local since I've had it for like two months now, but I guess it's good to know there are good ones.

Mine is the VMP and yes I did finally get one that had minimal distortion. "I Think In In Love" and "Electricity" were the worst from what I can recall. Mainly when the horns come in on "In Love". But yes it was definitely a pressing issue because they were all different and I did finally get a good-ish one.

Euuurrrggh whatdoIdo. I've been messing with my turntable calibration again {I need something else to do} and I guess I'll listen to it again once I get done with that and go from there… I swear I actually do like vinyl.

Yeah look those Spiritualized remasters are not pressed well. It's not you, it's them. Both my copies of Lazer Guided had crackle and noise in the same spots. It's GZ GZing

They’re also cut comically hot. Lazer Guided and the VMP Ladies & Gentlemen are the only two I don’t spend my life changing the volume between tracks and sides, never mind albums!

I placed an order for that specific one about an hour ago! I gather you're decently happy with it?
Just curious where you ordered from? I know the issue with this one is, it's impossible to tell whether it's the Optimal or GZ pressing without opening and checking the deadwax. I'm certain most of the ones listed on Cogs will be GZ

Oh, then it's possible this happens. It was a Canadian seller on Discogs. We'll see I guess.

I Might Be Wrong as I'm frequently a bit of an Idioteque. I want the Optimal pressing but it's a lot of Dollars and Cents to keep re-buying all these albums in some sort of vain attempt to put Everything In Its Right Place.

Finding good copies of Radiohead pressings is a real quagmire, with the different versions and different pressing defects that marred some of the best ones. I kind of want a decently well-done boxset so I can stop digging, but that's certainly a pipe dream.

The plot thickens! The second indie store that I ordered from claims that their copies of the red were shipped from the UK. Could this be the Optimal pressing? I may have to take one for the team and bite the bullet on this one.

Just checking once more, has anyone here received a red UK copy? Is it any good?

Edit: looks like there isn’t even a separate Discogs listing for a UK version. Hmmmmconfusionnnnnnnn

Yeah, it's kind of annoying especially people leaving reviews can't be bothered to say which version they have.

I've not looked at the edit history but I suspect Discogs would consider the pressing rings circumstantial and since they all have Optimal matrix codes it's not happenin. In the meantime:

I'm living in Germany and just received the red edition from German retailer JPC. I'm not sure, if it was pressed at Optimal or URP. Where can I see that?

I've so far listened to Kid A and the bonus songs vinyl.
No visible warps for me, no off-center. The bonus one has some trimmed/sharp edges, so isn't cut too well.

Kid A also has the distortion on "How to disappear completely" towards the high notes at the end. "Everything in its right place" and "Treefingers" have some pop. "Treefingers" has lots of crackle, but no distortion. "Optimistic" sounded a bit muddy to me. Some crackles also on "Motion Picture Soundtrack" but not as bad as on "Treefingers". Maybe a longer cleaning will improve this. I agree with @TenderLovingKiller® that apart from these songs the record is dead silent. Apart from the mentioned portions it sounds very good to me, though a bit less dynamic than the blue OKNOTOK. Best sounding to me had been "Kid A (the song)", "The National Anthem" and "Idioteque". No bigger issues on the bonus disc.

Now onwards to "Amnesiac".

Do any overseas people know anything about the Scarry Book edition? Would be very interested to hear reviews of that to see if it's even worth holding on to hope.
I haven't ordered it. It went for 100 €, is sold out now and the Radiohead EU site says that it is planned to be send out end of November. So I guess nobody has it yet?

It’s not out yet. Vague late November release. It is supposedly sold out now though. I can report back whenever it arrives but I doubt it’s different plates, will more than likely be the same version pressed at optimal but on cream vinyl.
