It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

Don’t get me wrong I love driving, not so much in a city and less so when I could walk/jump on a tram and get some beers in too…
You have to realize that for the most part, we build our stadiums in far flung areas that are seldom serviced by mass transit. That's why it's surprising they didn't cluster more venues in the East Coast like Baltimore or Washington DC which have good Amtrak service routes so visitors could at least travel easier between cities.

Yeah that sucks. There was a move towards that with the “new stadiums” in the 90s being built on motorway junctions and in industrial estates due to the cost of land in cities. It makes the old traditional stadiums near the cities even more special imo.

And also despite any of that we actually do public transport as a concept. Nowhere near as well as our Nordic and European neighbours, but in comparison to you lot…

Miami is going to be absolute cluster because of where the stadium is....Unless everyone is just flying in/then out using airport transit (still about 6 miles away) there is a hotel by the stadium but even that is 2.5 miles with no clear walking path.....The only parking is at the stadium and the in/out of those lots is horrible when the events are sold out. There are a handful of spots nearby most of which are quick stop restaurants if you want to avoid the Hard Rock Stadium overpricing....so pre-game meetups will be weird there....Not to mention Miami in the summer....

Atlanta here I come lol

I just hope Ireland don’t have to play down there again if they qualify. That match against Mexico in 94 in the summer heat was messy for us…

Edit: and actually come to think of it the second round loss against the Netherlands was there too…

I loved how easy it was to get around London and then off to Liverpool when I went to Anfield for a quick trip in February 2018. I only took a car to get to the place I rented near Anfield because my train got in late in the evening and I didn't want to rely on the bus to get me there. Very few places like that here in the US outside of New York City, Boston, Chicago, and Philadelphia. I'm trying to think if there's a single venue in the World Cup 2026 list that's serviced by mass transit. All I can think of is Seattle and that's at least within walking distance of the city center and the rail is more to get you from the airport to downtown.

Edit: MARTA can get you to the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Unrelated but if anyone wants a sick Ben & Jerry's sponsored training top

They're live here right now: Vermont Green FC

Vermont Green FC has partnered with Ben & Jerry's to produce 100 green & 100 sunset special edition training tops made from 100% recycled polyester. 100% of proceeds from the sale of this training top will be donated to Juba Star FC & VPIRG. Limit of 1 unit per style, per customer.

Only $63 shipped in the US 👀 I went with the Sunset since the Green is too similar to the Home Kit which I already have.
