January 2023 Spinning Challenge: Welcome To 2023

Day 8: No Jazz Sunday
The first time I did a challenge thread, back on the old VMP forum, I included this just to fuck with @Lee Newman . I’ve kind of become attached to it since. Play me anything but jazz!

Father John Misty - God’s Favorite Customer

I figured since @Joe Mac was taking this opportunity to fuck with @Lee Newman I would take the opportunity to troll Joe (and probably Lee too TBH) by spinning God’s Joe’s Favorite Customer, FJM (decided to include of Joe’s other favorite things in the post as well).

Day 9: Fuck Chad, it’s MoFi Monday
Play me something released by MoFi.

Grateful Dead - Workingman’s Dead

How is this? I have an OG that sounds fantastic.
Day 10: Top 10
Play me one of your top 10 albums of all time.

The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

I would have a tough time narrowing things down to a top ten but I am positive Pet Sounds would be on this list.

This is also on my top 10, nice choice.

So I also have a 2011 180HQ AAA copy pressed at RTI and cut by Chris Bellman which sounds very very good. So good that I almost regretted ponying the extra dough for the AAA MFSL 2XLP 45 RPM…until I heard it. The MoFi is the definitive pressing even better than the 2011. That being said, if you have an excellent OG copy and don’t like records with only 2 songs per side you are probably fine.

Day 10: Top 10
Play me one of your top 10 albums of all time.

Depeche Mode - Violator

This might not even be my favorite Depeche Mode album (I constantly switch between Ultra, Songs of Faith and Devotion, Music for the Masses, and Violator) but when asked to name my top 10 albums it has to be up there for me.

This is the album that took the band in a whole new direction and kicked off their fantastic 90's output.

Day 11: I Forgot
In memory of me being an absent minded fool play an album from the recesses of your collection that you haven’t spun in so long that you almost forgot you owned it!

Black Heat "No Time To Burn" (1974 Atlantic)
Flipped through the records in my funk & soul storage box and landed on this one. Anyway, it's a pretty fun record and it's been a long while since it hit the table.

I got this last Februrary when I picked up as part of a bundle with Flood and other albums. Never actually spun it, so seemed like the right day to pull off the shrinkwrap and give it a listen.

The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute

I’ve had this sitting on the shelf since last March and have yet to spin it. I have to be in a pretty specific mood/headspace for TMV.
