Jazz

Living in London has its advantages, one of which is being able to make the most of the current London jazz scene. I saw Kokoroko at a tiny venue called the Moth Club a few months ago and they were electric, such a great group and they all play off each other amazingly well.

I actually have a number of jazz gigs lined up for the rest of the year and the tickets tend to be really affordable (around £10). So far I have the following lined up:
The Comet Is Coming (twice, one at a festival and one at their solo gig0
Sons of Kemet (at Somerset House)
Children of Zeus (festival)
Oscar Jerome (festival)
Nubya Garcia (festival)
Maisha (solo gig and festival)
Joe Armon-Jones (festival)
Joel Ross (at Pizza Express Jazz)
Herbie Hancock (at the Barbican)

And on top of that im also seeing:
Beach Boys (Royal Albert Hall)
Daniel Norgren (Bush Hall)

Safe to say the rest of the year is going to be fantastic!!
Very jealous- nothing ever comes to us here in the South coast. Everyone always plays Brighton then Bristol - nothing inbetween. Sometimes we get something in Southampton but that’s still a good drive away from Bournemouth. Trains to London would be easy if it wasn’t so expensive

Im originally from a small village near a small town up north and the closest venue was an hour away on the train. I feel your pain dude!

So, was a little past due for a lawn mowing session. Loaded up some Bobby Hutcherson (Components) mostly because some compared Ross to him. I decided that wasn’t the most motivating music ever so I found this article:
Listened to Bird and Diz, it was awesome as expected, but then I listened to Sonny Side Up... holy smokes!

A few weeks back I found a couple of these on eBay for $63 shipped. I snagged one and @Dead C snagged the last one. His unfortunately showed up damaged and the seller refunded him the entire payment!

Now, how is that for a super deal on this boxset?

That dude actually has more of them, but he's not listing them, right now, for some reason. He offered to send me another one, "free of charge," but I wasn't sure if I was getting a second copy or if it was instead of a refund. Either way, I told him that he'd been generous enough. He tried to refund me with a fresh PayPal transfer, so I sent the money back and walked him through going through the ebay refund system, so that he wouldn't get hit by them for a commission on his invoice later. I also walked him through packaging/shipping, etc. so I think he just appreciated all of that. Mine isn't even really "damaged" other then the corners being "rubbed" a bit, so they poked through the shrink. I explained that a few times, but... I said okay. Took the refund.

Anyway, like I said, at the very end, he offered to send me another one. This time "packaged correctly." That means that he has another copy. I told him that, if/since he has more, I know someone that wanted it. I also told him that, if he decides to list some more, to give me a heads up and I could post them here and help him sell them out immediately. He said thanks and told me that he'd let me know. Not sure if he will, but that's what he told me.

Hey @Mr Moore, I recall seeing you posted a reissue of Charles Lloyd's Forest Flower somewhere, is that right?
Is that the Speakers Corner reissue? How does it sound? I have an OG, but I played it last night and it has way more pops and clicks than I recalled, so it may be time to upgrade to an audiophile pressing.

Sorry about the delay bud, I didn't see this somehow. Yes, mine is a Speakers Corner. I Can't fault their stuff in general to be honest, super sound and over here in UK a really decent price too.

It has been my farewell post at VMP. :)
And yes, it’s really lovely.

By the way, Angel Bat Dawid’s album will finally get a vinyl release around September - I’m really looking forward to finally put this on the platter.
In case you’re missed the digital release:
