Jazz

didn't realize they were releasing something, going to have to pick it up! Makes me miss the shows they were having last summer

Went into ISC to grab some records and when I told them I pre-ordered their first album they just gave me a copy early. Have it on right now, it’s VERY good and well pressed!
Thanks for letting me know. I think I’ll finally pull the trigger if it’s still available!

Anything essential to listen to here?

SAM Records haven't been able to absorb the big price hike in manufacturing and have had to raise all their prices as a result. I noticed they were offline yesterday and I thought maybe they were releasing something big (maybe a new artisan). Shame its this but what else can they do?

Disappointing but expected. I noticed Honest Jons are now charging £40 a title for Sam records.

I really hope people like Fred don’t get squeezed out.

We Insist! is an avant-garde jazz album that is interesting. It's on the Penguin Guide To Jazz Core Collection list. The Mingus is probably my favorite of these though.
Not much Mingus has clicked with me up to this point, but this is a lovely album. May have to grab it if it makes it to swaps, otherwise I'll hunt out the standard press

Mingus can be a hard one to get into! He has SO much work in so many different styles...sometimes all ya need is an entry point. Glad you're digging this one though.

I love this story.

Did you order from Elusive? If so, I'm sure you will hear from them soon. Elusive is the primary distributor for Impex, so they are going to be the first to get copies. If you ordered from Acoustic Sounds or another retailer, it may be an extra day or more before they have copies in hand.

Did someone just overpay (not too terribly) for Dr. Johnny Fever’s (supposedly) copy of Mal Waldron’s “The Quest,” in a version brutally rebranded with Waldron demoted below Dolphy/Ervin and brutally re-cover-arted w/ hippie-dippy garbage, all merely bc it (supposedly) was a record once played by the greatest DJ of all time, Dr. Johnny Fever?

Yes! Someone (me) did do that! On the bright side, media is VG++ and it’s definitely one of the 1969 versions w/ VAN GELDER stamp (based on back cover), and it very likely was spun by none other than Dr. Johnny Fever. Most importantly, if Loni Anderson was ever in the remote vicinity of this record, it’s worth at least 3x what I paid. :cool:1647468804643.png

Ahh, good to know. I ordered with Acoustic Sounds!

Should I be worried that my AS order status for Matador is saying Back-Ordered all of a sudden? I definitely pre-ordered it...
