Jazz

will these titles most likely be available any where else?

SAM Records haven't been able to absorb the big price hike in manufacturing and have had to raise all their prices as a result. I noticed they were offline yesterday and I thought maybe they were releasing something big (maybe a new artisan). Shame its this but what else can they do?

He is also a bit of a flake. I know a dealer that has been trying to deal with him for 6 months to no avail and nothing but excuses. Finally gave up despite the mentioned issues.

He’s a one man label who has had issues with plants, delays, etc. they have had to entirely switch pressing plants and we all know how hard the past two years have been on smaller labels. Seems like he has a lot on his plate at the moment.

yah, he has many excuses I agree and is setting up his own record shop as well apparently. Hopefully he gets everything up to speed again.

He 's very much the opposite on customer service. I had a great experience dealing with Fred, I suspect he has too much to do. I don't think he has much stock left at the minute, most titles are sold out.

Agreed. I had an issue with a pressing and it was sold out where I bought it. Messaged him and he mailed me a free replacement even though I did not buy it from him.

Did someone just overpay (not too terribly) for Dr. Johnny Fever’s (supposedly) copy of Mal Waldron’s “The Quest,” in a version brutally rebranded with Waldron demoted below Dolphy/Ervin and brutally re-cover-arted w/ hippie-dippy garbage, all merely bc it (supposedly) was a record once played by the greatest DJ of all time, Dr. Johnny Fever?

Yes! Someone (me) did do that! On the bright side, media is VG++ and it’s definitely one of the 1969 versions w/ VAN GELDER stamp (based on back cover), and it very likely was spun by none other than Dr. Johnny Fever. Most importantly, if Loni Anderson was ever in the remote vicinity of this record, it’s worth at least 3x what I paid. :cool:View attachment 132569
I mean...I kinda dig that album cover design. had never seen it before. And price-wise it doesn't seem that awful. I mean look at the "frequently bought" below it....a grey market pressing of The Quest is $29.99. It's not an album I see around for good prices anymore. The OJCs have gone through the roof price-wise.

Side note, it's insane to me how much OJCs have gone up in value. I'm regularly seeing OJCs sell for $60+ now.

There’s a great Steve Kuhn trio record with Steve Swallow and Pete LaRoca that I hope to find on vinyl someday. Not even sure (cuz I haven’t really looked) if it’s been released on vinyl.
is it Three Waves? There are some vinyl pressings of it if so!

crazy price for a 10"! but i guess its an import?

Well this is exciting! The debut album from Kokoroko.

I saw these guys live 3 years ago so crazy to think we only just have an album from them.

The pricing seems to be weird. £20 for the limited edition vinyl with £10 postage (to the same country!!!!), but when you go through it comes up as £24 plus £6. Either way, £30 for UK people. Or £18 plus postage for the standard.

On a side note, British Progressive Jazz (the new label from Jazz In Britain's Matt Parker) have hinted at their first physical release being available today so look out for that, although I have a feeling it might be CD only.
