Jazz

I've often been tempted ti get the Pure Pleasure release of that album, or Cosmic Vortex. I don't own any Wendell Irvine
Cosmic Vortex is $28 on the Fat Beats site. Probably doesn't make sense for you but might for @Portland Sheriff if it's of any interest:

Just had a great score.

I have been after the 2009 Trunk Records release of "Tubby Hayes – Voodoo Session" for a while now. It's the tracks recorded for "Dr Terror's House Of Horror" and was never released until Trunk released a limited run of 666 copies in 2009. There was then a reissue of 500 copies in a plain inner sleeve. I have been holding out for the original release which has the sleeve but it tends to go for a fair chunk. I was outbid a few days ago on a copy that went for around £40.

By amazing luck, I was able to buy a sealed copy from the original run for £16.50, which might sound a lot for a 7" but I cant imagine another copy turning up for that price any time soon.

Here's one of the tracks, just listen when the flute comes in. Cracking!

Unfortunately, $35 by the time I saw this! But thank you for thinking of/tagging me!

On a side note, British Progressive Jazz (the new label from Jazz In Britain's Matt Parker) have hinted at their first physical release being available today so look out for that, although I have a feeling it might be CD only.

Annoyingly, I guessed correctly when it comes to the first physical release from British Progressive Jazz as it is going to be CD only for now. Still looks like a good live session fro Keith Tippett.

Just out of curiosity how many of you listen to jazz 7" releases?

In the past, I ignored them because I couldn't be bothered flipping them out after a few minutes but in recent years I have enjoyed stacking up a pile and spending some time listening. This has increased with my deep dive into British jazz as a lot of producers would release 7" EP's by musicians as a way of testing the waters for a full album release.

Here are 2 of my most recent 7" purchases, both British Jazz. A 1961 Joe Harriott release and a 1959 release by The Jazz Committee (Don Rendell, etc).

I’m in Boston looking at a couple colleges w/ my daughter. I’m gonna have some time tomorrow to check out some record stores. I’m mostly interested in used jazz.

Nuggets is about a minute from our hotel, and Orpheus a few minutes’ walk past that. I was also thinking about In Your Ear and Village Vinyl. I can get anywhere on the T and don’t mind walking. But there are too many options, and I don’t know which shops specialize or focus on jazz.

Thanks for any input. I looked at the New England and Boston threads but neither has been active for a couple years, and I don’t recognize any of the people that posted there.
I second Village Vinyl. I was in Boston for my daughter’s graduation a couple of years ago (those four years go fast!) and I wandered into VV’s new location. They had some amazing jazz titles available at the time.

Happy college search!

looks like another jazz dispensary titles is coming back into stock:

Who among you has read or plans to read Dave Chisholm's Chasin' the Bird? It's a comic book about Charlie Parker's time in California.
Gav and I reviewed it for the new Gas Giants and we both felt it is pretty good. We thought it accomplishes something that would be hard to do in any other format.

Oh nice, I saw this advertised but the comments were bashing the company for taking the money and never sending them out so I held off. If they start making their way to physical shops I will definitely buy a copy. I really enjoy Coltrane by Paolo Parisi and Monk! by Youssef Daoudi as well.

@Selaws, not a comic but you might enjoy this picture book about Trane, very nice illustrations.
