That's the odd thing. I never had surface noise on 80% of the mono records. Only on those recent Contemporary records. The drop in surface noise between mono and stereo playback should be very noticeable.

This is interesting, can you please share a link to the cable you went for? Or a name?Following @OMC advice to setup a mono switch.
Had some free amazon bucks so trying this $15 y-cable SHF trick to see how it sounds.
Testing it out on this 6-eye Duke release (promo copy).
The vinyl looks brand new.
Super cool find for $15.
Initial thoughts are great. Need to spend some time listening more.

And where do you go from there? How are they connected? Is that your turntable interconnect lying on the surface that's plugged into these DIY cables, which are then plugged into your phono pre? (And I assume all of this has to be removed to get back to stereo?)I bought the used options

Art Pepper - Art Pepper Meets The Rhythm Section [Mono] [LIMIT 1 PER CUSTOMER]
According to jazz lore, on the morning of January 19, 1957, esteemed alto saxophonist Art Pepper woke up to learn that he was booked for a session, just hours later, with Miles Davis’ highly respected rhythm section (pianist Red Garland, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Philly Joe Jones)...www.plaidroomrecords.com
I have no desire to replace my Analog Spark copy. This has been a sleeper release this year from Rhino. Looks to be AAA and certainly sounds like analog too.
