March 2022 Vinyl Spin Challenge Thread - Here It Goes Again

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

Tonight Alive ~ Underworld

Hoo boy here we go! This was THE SINGLE TOUGHEST CHOICE out of all the challenges I’ve done. Who do I celebrate? This wasn’t easy as there are so many women that have had a major impact in my life with their work.

I ultimately went with Jenna McDougall of Tonight Alive.

For those of you who don’t know Jenna is the person who made me fall in love with vinyl. I was a music fan for sure, but without her voice and song writing I would be in a very different place in my life. Tonight Alive’s music helped me grieve and realize my true adult self a few years ago. This was the album that told me 2018 was going to be ok. 2018 was the year that I thought wouldn’t be topped and 2021 happened. I listened to this album no joke multiple times a day. It’s not been since I was 17 that something like that happened. She touched somewhere deep I can’t even explain properly. Aussie music hits different.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

I agree with @Piratenovelist about the difficulty of choosing someone I am inspired by, love to listen to, admire, and so much more.
Janis, Joni, Fiona, Aretha, Dolly and Sharon all come to mind...there's like 30 records right there to choose from.
So I took the easy route. Yesterday I was scanning my Discogs for a different prompt and saw this and realized I hadn't spun it in quite awhile...so this got the nod for today.
I'm glad I chose it...it's beautiful and is really hitting the spot right now.

Ooh I’ll have to check it out!

Even in my post there were two other women represented that I love in music. I felt so bad leaving someone out haha. That’s why I love music so much is there so much good out there for us to celebrate!

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY Part Deux

I asked my wife to choose one for today. She picked this one in an instant, then debated over a few others, then said nope, this one.
I made her pose for this pic.

I forgot you were in Michigan, but the Wayne State hoodie reminded me! So do you remember ever seeing this around there? They used to sell it in a couple local grocery stores in the Sterling Heights area back in the 80s for sure, maybe into the 90s, but it's been a while since I've been around those parts. I remember it looking a little different and it might have been an olive loaf combo type deal, but it was definitely a meat product that looked like a face.

I've been in Michigan most of my life......I've.....never seen that. .
It's cute and scary and gross all at the same time.

Meat Clown is the name of my new Grindcore band on Touch & Go.

I was afraid of it as a kid and was always worried my mom would buy it and force me to eat it even though she never would have bought that. There were always some weird meats in the mom and pop grocery stores back then. So many ethnic groups from all over that you could always find both weird and very tasty foods around there. I miss living in such an ethnically diverse area. It's better here in the Atlanta area than where I'd been the last couple years, but nothing like the Detroit area was back then.

Day 09: DARE TO BE STUPID
Play something by an artist that has been parodied by the great "Weird Al" Yankovic.
I have a confession to make, I have no idea what this artist has done, I have heard of the name but that's about it so Google was my friend, apparently he did a parody of one of Elton's songs from this album on his Dare to be Stupid record

Play something by an artist that has been parodied by the great "Weird Al" Yankovic.

Queen "The Game" (1980 Elektra; original Canadian pressing)
Weird Al covered "Another One Bites The Dust" as one of his infamous polkas, in "Another One Rides The Bus".
