March 2022 Vinyl Spin Challenge Thread - Here It Goes Again

Day 09: DARE TO BE STUPID
Play something by an artist that has been parodied by the great "Weird Al" Yankovic.

Weird Al is inextricably linked with Dr. Demento for me. One of my favorite memories growing up was listening to the Dr. Demento show on KMET in LA with my Dad. 4 hours every Sunday night of songs from people like Spike Jones, Tom Lehrer, Barnes & Barnes, Stan Freeberg, and more. The good doctor was the first to play Weird Al's first breakout song, "My Bologna", and Al would show up on his show quite a bit.

So I'm gonna do a twofer today. The first album has "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around", which Al parodied as "Stop Draggin' My Car Around". The second is a Dr. Demento album that doesn't feature Weird Al, but still has plenty of songs that dare to be stupid.

Since I heard "Hungry Like The Wolf" playing at the chiropractor office today...although not clearly enough to tell which version it was.

You can usually tell which version it is by how much and how loud the moaning is at the end of the song...and the time difference. I wasn't close enough to the speaker to really hear it, though.

The Night Version can be a bit awkward in public situations...or when driving with my daughter in the car when she was younger.

DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER
Play a great album with a not-so-great album cover.

OK...it's not a "great" album, but for a 80's horror movie about killer robots in a mall, it isn't too bad. This art work is the worst. I don't know who thought this was good enough to be used for a movie about killer robots in a mall.

Supposedly there is a reissue in the works with new art, but we'll see, Covid has changed a lot of plans.

Chuck Cirino – Chopping Mall
