Day 7: Latest Purchase

Archie Shepp - Four For Trane (Impulse!, 1965 First Mono Pressing)

I've had one hell of a good haul over the past few days, but this is one of the latest to arrive at my flat. I have long been a fan of John Coltrane and Archie Shepp but this record always alluded me. Its a dream combination of musicians (Coltrane produced it) which sounds incredible. I actually was lucky enough to see Archie Shepp live at the Barbican in London a couple of years ago and even at 80+ years of age he still blew it out of the park. When he slowly walked across the stage I have to admit that his frailness worried us, but as soon as he started playing it was a powerhouse of sound. This copy is the first mono pressing on Impulse! and is likely to be one of my best-looking records from that era, it's just in such good shape. It usually sells for quite a high amount, but I managed to get this at a steal, just £21!

Day 4 - An Album From Your Senior Year

This is the one I misunderstood. I took it to mean “an album you listened to for your senior year” which for my group of friends was Weezer - Pinkerton. Senior, Junior, Sophomore, and years after, that album was the one piece of glue for us as we all separated and took our own musical journeys.

But, after catching up on the thread and seeing that it’s “album that was released during your senior year” I gotta go with....

.....another album that someone has already posted. Hahahaha. It’s my only release from 1998.

Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea

If Pinkerton was the soundtrack to my high school years, this is the soundtrack to my college/early twenties. I remember hating it when I first heard it, because my roommate would blast it non-stop from behind the upstairs door in our Ypsilanti rental. I just remembered hearing “I LOVE YOU JESUS CHARIIIIIST!!!!” for days from behind that stupid door. I would walk past it to my room and bang once, nice and loud, and yell to him, “I HATE you Jesus Christ!”

Then, one night over beers, we sat down in his room and did pre-social-media internet stuff like try to become friends with girls on local scene forums while he played the record. It took on a whole new life to me once I actually tried to ‘listen’ to it, instead of just ‘hearing’ it. It’s been love ever since.

....with the album, not the local internet scenester girls.

Day 6: Various Artists - The Big Chill Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

A slice of unadulterated baby boomer nostalgia, this record holds an average sale price on Discogs of $2.50, including a low of $0.99. I want to know who is the person buying 99 cent records on Discogs. Separated from the annoyingness of full on Boomer-dom, its actually a nice compilation of Motown tunes.

Day 7 - Latest purchase
Charly García - Yendo De La Cama Al Living (1982)

It's not my latest purchase, actually -I have two vinyl that will arrive God knows when, and two more reserved on my record store but they'll send those next week.
So technically this is my last stuff I brought home. The title means "going from the bed to the living room", which is very appropriate title for these days.

Day 7: Latest Purchase

Picked up 2 albums from my local shop 2 weeks ago when they opened up for curbside delivery. Pearl Jam ~ Gigaton, and this one. SInce I played this one second, I'm counting it as my latest purchase. Love this album, so easy to get lost in the layers.

It's funny, I never noticed the swan before on the CD I've had for years. The swan dress makes a whole lot more sense now.

Bjork ~ Vespertine

Is that a reissue?

Got this for like $50 pesos(around $2.50). Cover is beat up, but the vinyl looks like new

Not my latest purchased, but the latest one I've received.

Love this album and I'm quite happy about getting it for a little bit over $20 USD. Was about to pull the trigger on Discogs when this popped up on the SoV sale!

Sometimes it pays to wait a bit.
