Day 10: An album that makes you YEARN

I yearn for live music in a small club. I fear it's gonna be a long time before this becomes a reality. So long that many of the best venues may not survive the wait.

Here's a record taped live at one of my favorite clubs - The Grey Eagle in Asheville, NC.

Like countless others, they're just trying to weather this thing. If you're a live music fan, please do what you can to support your local venues while they're down and out. If you'd like to support The Grey Eagle, here's a link -

DAY 10 - AN ALBUM THAT MAKES YOU YEARN
Mitski - Be the Cowboy
Wasn't sure which direction to take this theme but decided to pick an album that made me yearn for a person and a time, I suppose. Mitski's music resonates with me in a way I can't really describe... but I don't know if I've ever had an album hit me at the right time when I needed it more than Be the Cowboy. I'm not too interested in recapping a pretty dark time in my life but the context is that from August to September 2018, I went through an awful break-up and once it was finally over, I gravitated to this album. The themes of heartbreak, loneliness and desperation that are sprinkled throughout it were striking a core with me, at a time when I was feeling devastated and isolated and heartbroken. Even now, I listen to it and feel some of those same chills and rushes of emotion as if I was right back in 2018, locking myself in my dorm playing this album as loud as I possibly could without getting noise complaints.

Day 10 - YEARN

Adele - 25

Yearning hits differently at 1am so I wanted to play this before I go to bed. Throwback to fall of 2015 which was easily the lowest point I've ever hit. I was depressed and lost and then to top it all off I experienced my first real heartbreak. Afterwards was alone and felt totally isolated, which is the perfect mood for a new Adele album! The first time I listened to this I was grocery shopping and I started crying in front of the cashier because these songs were just hitting me so good. The depression and desperation of "All I Ask", the hope for closure on "Hello", and the longing of "A Million Years Ago"were the heavy hitters then and even still they still bring me back to that time

Day 10: An album that makes you YEARN

It isn't this specific album, but I miss the days of really good vinyl scores. The days of thrift stores, antique malls, Craigslist, free curbside finds, etc. are essentially over.

This is a score from the end of my thrifting days when things really started drying up here - about 7-8 years ago.

Cream ‎– Disraeli Gears
ATCO Records ‎– 33-232, 1967

I think I'll try to keep this thrift score theme going for my plays tonight....gotta stay up and reset my clock to work tomorrow night.

Van Morrison - Astral Weeks

Talk about yearning. I don’t know if there’s a song on this album that doesn’t make me “want” down to my core. I’ll be honest, I don’t even know what half the songs are about, but just the music and singing makes me believe they are about a primal hunger for some person, place, or feeling.

So, if they’re about his dog or favorite Chinese joint down the street, please don’t tell me. Haha.

I've just stumbled over this thread. Lovely idea. 🙂 I will try to post the recent days over the next days and then continue daily.

So day 1

This was the first vinyl I bought (hard to get back then in Germany). I must have bought it in 1990 when I was 12. I still like her a lot as a singer and seen her perform live in Paris last year. ❤️ I actually didn't buy a lot of vinyl back then (lots of CDs though) and just got into really collecting vinyl in 2017. 💗
