a feeling of intense longing for something

Day 10 - An album that makes you YEARN

So we all have to get heartbroken at some stage in our lives ..this album came along at the time of a pretty big breakup in my life . At a time when even music wasn’t chearing me up ...so Love Burns made a lot of sense ...and as I approach the big 5 0 I can only offer one bit of advice when it comes to relationships ..it should not be hard work , a love that burns can not last imo ...be yourself people and love will find a way ..I met my wife of 18 years and counting a few weeks after this album came out ..so we then played it to death and it took on a whole new meaning

Pulp Fiction

The best year of my life was the year I worked in a bar in Paris (admittedly while I was supposed to be doing a masters in French law). When things got really wild there, we used to kill all the lights, wait 5-10 seconds and then put on the opening of this. Happy days.

The National "Alligator"

The soundtrack to my 2005-2006 that brings me to both good and bad places but always hits me every time I take the journey! I don't know if I yearn to go back, I'd like to know then what I do now and correct some mistakes and make some I didn't have the courage to back then... This was there for me through thick and thin, it was my comfort food when times were bad and a release when it was so so necessary! I'll never get tired of listening to this and am ok confronting those times when listening, the ups and downs made me who I am today so I can't complain!

Day 10 - Yearnin'
Jimmy Buffett - Havana Daydreamin'

I think my Dad used to basically want to be Jimmy Buffett, outside of the making music aspect. It certainly seemed to make up the majority of his listening. His music reminds me of the great simpler times of my childhood, growing up on the beach. I'm not sure I'd ever listen to him if it weren't for the nostalgia, but his '70s albums really ain't bad considering the sort of vitriol he seems to get from people who aren't Parrot Heads.

Various ‎– Chef (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (Milan, 2014 First Pressing)

I really didn't know which direction to go with this one, but with the lockdown situation I am certainly looking forward to summer and getting outside. This album is a recent pick-up, but one that I have streamed countless times. The film itself is just fantastic and ALWAYS makes me hungry, and the soundtrack is definitely a highlight. Its summer on wax as far as I am concerned, with a mix of Latin grooves and covers of killer songs such as the Hot 8 Brass Band's cover of 'Sexual Healing'.

PiL - Metal Box
Virgin, 1979

There's bits of longing and bits of sadness and bits of spookiness here, all layered over the fantastic driving funky bass of Jah Wobble, which I would argue is pure sex.

I understand that the intent of spreading this album out to three 12-inchers was to be irritating, but the result sounds fantastic as it's at 45 RPM.

I’d love one of those ..only seen one in the wild, pretty battered and record store wanted serious cash for it

IMO very few (if any) songs encapsulate the feeling or raw lustful yearning better than “Captain Badass” usually you would turn elsewhere than indie rock to find a good make out session soundtrack but this one is certainly an exception. Edith Frost’s sultry reply to Molinas howled requests still gives me goosebumps.

So when you leave me
I will burn on in your soul"

Day 4: An album from your senior year of high school

Lauryn Hill "The miseducation of Lauryn Hill"

This came out in 1998, the last year of High School for me. Bought it back then and it still sounds incredible. Lauryn Hill actually was also my first concert. I've been to her gig in Düsseldorf in May 1999. She was like 2 hours late and people got worried. Once she was there it was really amazing ❤️

I'm probably misunderstanding this one.
But what I'm yearning is going to Iceland. It is so expensive so it's a trip I have to plan with lot of anticipation... And the Coronavirus situation makes me think I won't be able to go until 2022 or 2023...

Day 10 - Yearn

I don’t know guys. I guess because my experience with COVID varies wildly from the average experience, I’m struggling with this one. Sad sack music isn’t necessarily my thing anyhow. Sure there’s plenty of Country and Soul music about wanting the good old days or that missed lover. But... I don’t know.

Anyhow, Ms. Simone seems to be the physical embodiment of yearning to me.

(Also, I yearn for a better pressing of this particular album, because the music is spectacular.)
