Movies

Saw Barbie today and had a great time with it. It’s a lot of fun, very funny, and never felt overly long or anything. Maybe I could see why people say it’s trying to do too much, but ultimately it didn’t bother me cause I just enjoyed the ride. Everyone is really good in it, but I was impressed with America Ferrera. Also, having watched an interview with Greta Gerwig about her film inspirations for the movie I can totally get what she’s going for. It’s a big mainstream film, but with a lot of smart meta commentary and solid jokes throughout. Can’t really say enough good things about it. And I never thought I’d be here praising a Barbie movie, but damn Gerwig did it.

Went back for a rewatch tonight.

The more i rewatch his films the closer this one sneaks up to be my favorite Tarantino film. It's pretty much been a tie between this and Kill Bill (i count both as one) with Inglorious Basterds a very close second.

I really loved this movie. KB will always be my favorite, but like you this and IB are very close along with Jackie Brown.

Saw Barbie this morning with friends and family. We all wore something pink. The movie was a lot of fun! The attention to detail was fantastic! Every cast member was great and I really hope the Ken song gets nominated for an Oscar.
That Ken song and dance was great and the
Matchbox 20 scene
was hilarious.

Also, perfect ending (the last line)

Quite a bit of applause from the audience too.

An ok movie for two-thirds which falls apart with the San Diego ending which was clearly a last minute change from the original ending they had planned. Made even worse when you have no clue how the crew on the ship died. Also, Julianne Moores character is annoying and dumb.

Ending definitely doesn’t feel Spielbergian, but it’s a fun sequel nonetheless.

Oppenheimer made me wanna read a book. In a good way, I think; while the movie felt like a whole picture, the editing and Nolan’s mixed-down dialogue left me yearning for concrete context.
I think the filmmaking is admirable but there's frequently a sort of mismatch between the subject and the execution. This sort of visceral, grandiose, experiential tone worked really well (imo) for Dunkirk because that movie was all about silent men trapped in a hopeless situation, but here it sometimes feels like Nolan is afraid to let the movie breathe. Also he remains really bad at writing women.

That said, when it does click together its some of the best shit he's ever done.

I feel like you probably already know this but from what I have read much of Nolan’s script came from adapting American Prometheus by Kai Bird
