Movies

All the King stuff that Rob Reiner (Stand By Me, Misery) or Frank Darabont (Shawshank, Green Mile, Mist) touched is at least great. I'm more mixed on Mike Flanagan, but many like his King stuff too.

Carrie, The Shining, and Christine are great auteur-driven adaptations that stand alone. Plenty more solid ones than that too like Pet Sematary or Dolores Claiborne. Hell even Maximum Overdrive is a great time with a couple substances.

I heard someone refer to Tremors as a Five Star 3 Star movie. Meaning it’s not flawed in construction concept or execution but it was not looking to be anything more than what it was.

I think Maximum Overdrive falls into that category of a Five Start 3 Star movie as well.

LOVE Christine. I'm also a Doctor Sleep fan, in particular the Director's Cut, but that is probably more because I want Rose the Hat to step on me than anything else.

Never saw Doctor Sleep, and thought Gerald's Game was okay (starts out great, then faceplants near the end, but tbf the book does that too). Flanagan I like more as a vibes guy. Midnight Mass is VERY solidly King esque for not being an actual King thing. His writing just gets on my nerves, I wish he'd team up with a solid screenwriter and also not keep casting the same (not very good) people.

do yourself a favor, watch the Doctor Sleep Director's Cut (it's on my Plex). it's a fun exercise in adapting a novel that's very much a sequel to the book and simultaneously trying to square it with Kubrick's film. It's solid.

i gotta give this one another chance. it used to be my least favorite in the DM franchise, mostly because it deviates so much from what the first one established (the first movie being illumination’s take at the Shrek formula vs this one being a proto-Spy Family type story) but now that DM4 has overtaken the spot for worst DM movie, maybe i’ll appreciate this one a bit more now

I haven't seen these in years and have yet to see DM4 or Minions 2 so these feel like watching them for the first time because i couldn't really remember anything lol I liked it. A bit funnier than the first one but movie overall a bit of a step down from DM1.

Trying to decide if i should watch the DM movies first and then the two Minions or go by year they were released which would be:
DM
Dm2
Minions
DM3
Minions 2
DM4

chronological order is fine, there’s also a 10-minute short from 2023 that shows what happened to Vector in the moon.

I'm up to 55 2024 films watched. Took the dog's babysitter to see Nickle Boys last night (our typical arrangement before I leave on a trip). Probably my favorite thing I've seen in the past 12 months.
